There's only one film coming out this Friday that I'll throw money down on, and this ain't it. Thirst FTW.

I think it's really weird that this movie was given absolutely no promotion until the last week or two, and now it's being released on over 1,500 screens this weekend. It's gonna tank horribly because there's no awareness, even among the horror community. Most people hadn't heard of this film until this month!

Hey has anyone been following the the viral game?

I'm no huge fan of what Dunstan and Melton have done to date -- the last two Saws were no great shakes, and the Feast movies are little more than pleasantly goofy horror spoofs (albeit pretty entertaining ones). But I really do like what I've seen of this one so far, and what I've heard. It sounds like they really went after a good old-fashioned hardcore scary-ass movie, and I'm down with that. I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt and definitely check out The Collector this weekend.

MrDisgusting, I enjoy your reviews & insights, but I do have a question. If you do not believe in the term "torture porn", why use it? You fall back on this meaningless & derogatory term in an attempt to classify this film, and even refer to it as a sub-genre. To me, this has a very negative vibe to it, as it was originally used by anti-horror critics who wished to ascribe some sort of sexual arousal to the audience for hardcore horror films. I would love to see this silly term fall by the wayside rather than be embraced by horror fans & observers as some sort of valid description, but that is just my take on it.

@Pike: Torture Porn. I HATE that term! I think that it is just horrible to all horror films, and leaves them as some gross, low-budget smut film. I agree with you wholeheartedly about the negative vibe of this. Torture Porn: Die!
