Lionsgate has officially greenlit Saw VII and in a shocking turn of events tapped David Hackl to return to the helm. Hackl, the production designer on Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV, also directed Saw V, which many would consider the worst entry in the franchise. Plans are to have it in theaters by next October with Saw VI arriving in theaters October 23. What do you guys think of the announcement? Chime in below.

Fine by me..I think that "V" wasnt bad.. as far as dircting...now the changes they made sucked and the story was weak...I AM FINE WITH IT...

Everything for SAW VI has been alright, but don't they usually wait to see the success before advancing to the next year? Almost like they don't care any more? Besides, didn't Tobin Bell only sign on for 6? Then again, he's been dead for a few movies already....isn't everything supposed to come "full circle" with 6, dare I ask what could 7 possibly have?

I thought Saw V was good...at least they're staying within the Saw family...seems to keep all the movies feeling connected and like a series...Go Hackl!!

So they are bringing back the guy who directed the worst sequel in the franchise. Gee, thats a smart move

@killakalifornia: How the hell is the Saw franchise even on par with Star Trek? Honestly. I eagerly await a logical and thought-out response.

@thedeadmaytastebad no offense, but the star trek thing sorta died out years ago... in principle anyway... i mean, inter-galactic travel and aliens have been done so many times over... but a guy who tries to teach life lessons (albeit in a "sick and twisted" way) has never been truly done before... not in this sense or this magnitude, anyway... no offense, just a thought... anyway, that's not the point... maybe they'll make saw 7 a prequel??? i mean, people hated the last few movies because jigsaw is dead and the story "sucked"... well, the story, in a prequel, can be manipulated as long as it didn't wreck the continuity, so no problems there... and in a proper prequel, jigsaw, would, of course, still be alive... wouldn't it be cool to have jigsaw doing his stuff, without the distraction of his "mostly weird" apprentices (so far, anyway, hoffman might outdo himself yet)??? i think that gets the problems outta the way quite well... whatcha guys think???

Emmm.. Saw IV was the worst. Saw V wasnt great but it was watchable...

7 is on the fast track when 6 is a few months away from release. Damn LG is desperate to milk the series dry. Work on a better story. 5 was so/so but all it was was the cop going around saying "how did he kill this guy?" than they show flashbacks to stretch it to a full length movie... Nice writing guys!

Yes. Saw 4 was definitely the worst entry in the series, not 5.

@imback357: How exactly is Trek dead? Abrams' recent reboot nearly $380 million dollars world-wide. It has 95% approval from the critic community with 253 positive reviews. It's best received Star Trek film of all time, in fact, and one of the best received films of the year. Also, people (normal movie-going audiences) love it as it's tracking with an 8.4 average vote rating on imdb from 78+ thousand reviews. It introduced and fused together Star Trek old audiences and new fans alike. I'm also sorry, but Saw isn't all that original. The first film was fun, but it was much more of a collage of other great films rather than an original creation. There's this little masterpiece called Se7en which Saw took heavily from including it's themes, it's villain, it's victims, and it's traps. I’m sorry, but I fail to see how Saw is in any way superior to a much more imaginative, creative, and assembled franchise. Star Trek has inspired over four decades of imagination.

Uhh? Why don't they bring back Kevin Greutert? He seems to be a much better choice than Hackl. Hopefully Greutert will still be the editor. I wonder why Hackl was supposed to direct V and VI then dropped out of VI but is back for VII. This doesn't make any sense but hopefully Hackl gets a better script to work with and maybe we will all have a different opinion about him. Only time will tell.

Clearly, those whole make these decisions don't actually watch the movies. IV and V were nothing special. If VI sucks, I'm calling it quits.

UGH! A Shocking Twist would be for Wan to return to the franchise and quite frankly I wish he did, that would blow the doors off the franchise, I'd say :)

Oh god Saw V was honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. IV was up there as well its only salvation was the intro autopsy scene. *sigh* why do we need more Saws? I think the new trailer is horrible. I think I'll pass on Saw XXI and watch Night of the Demons instead.

RIDICULOUS !!! Having another SAW movie announced before #6 is even out is foolish. Even though I hate the idea, I will admit this will continue to make money so they will keep crankin this shit out. I predict this could go 2 or 3 more before it runs dry (financially). Artistically, this thing died after #2. NOTHING is good after #3. The Godfather series will even tell you that.
