SDCC '09: 'Night of the Creeps' Sequel in the Cards...

Bloody-Disgusting stringer Tex (Tim Anderson) writes in from the San Diego Comic Con with some incredible and exciting news. Arriving on DVD this October from Sony Home Entertainment is Fred Dekker's Night of the Creeps, the classic 80's film that follows a college couple, in 1959, see an object plummet to Earth like a meteor. The boy accidentally swallows a space-slug that shoots out. In 1986, two freshmen roam the campus and stumble across the corpse of the boy who swallowed the space-slug. Once thawed out, the corpse comes to life. While it's already huge news that we're finally getting a DVD release of the film, Tex just finished chatting with Dekker at the San Diego Comic Con who breaks the news exclusively to B-D that "If the DVD sells really well, they are considering a sequel." Straight from the horses mouth. Now go by the effin DVD and let's get a sequel. Oh - and Dekker did mention something about a "Blu-ray" release. Holy crap, I'm gonna cry of happiness.

Yeah, right. The only thing we'll get it's a "reboot", "re-imagining"...

This is great news! I've been waiting for a DVD release FOREVER! If they do make a sequal then they have to cast Tom Atkins, regardless. I would settle for a reboot... Think about it, was NOTC a high budgit blockbuster that's taboo to remake? I don't think so.

I'm with Demented D. Please leave this Classic alone. No sequels/remakes or re-imaginings.

Guys, it would be from Fred Dekker himself, and a lot of the original cast would return! This is awesome news! **SPOLIER ALERT** In the director's cut, which is the version being released on DVD, we see Detective Cameron die. He walks away from the sorority house as a burned zombie, he falls, and slugs splat out of his head. So...Tom Atkins can't come back for the sequel. Bummer. It should be called "Dawn of the Creeps", to stay in spirit with all of the horror homages in the original! Thrill me!!

That is some fun and good news. I'll consider it a response to "Slither."

I'd rather see a sequel to Slither, that movie was F-U-N!

If Dekker still has the magic, why not. I love his movies, and if it's in the same vein as the original, and doesn't try too hard to appeal to modern teens, but just be a fun sci-fi/horror flick with gore and laughs, I'm for it!

Very ecstatic about the official dvd release of this underrated gem, but I'm on the fence on a sequel. As long as Dekker is writing/directing, and they can get Jason Lively (pretty sure his schedule is open) then I'm game.

I have been waiting for the dvd for a long time. The sequel sounds good as long as they use the same technical aspects used in the original...cheesy lines, cheesy effects. I can see it getting ruined by overuse of CGI. That's what made the 80's horror fun...bad effects and cheesy lines!

someone was nice enough to burn me a copy of night of the creeps (transferred from laser disc), so i'm pretty happy about an actual release... as for the sequel. i dunno. maybe if a sequel had been done a loooong time ago it would have been ok. but lets face it, if it's made now its just gonna be mucked up with megan foxes and all that cgi brouhaha.

I would also rather them do a sequel to Slither seeing as how it was made more recently. I hate when they do sequels now to movies released in the fuckin' 80's (ie Lost Boys). Leave this gem to shine and don't throw any of your sequel mud on it!

"Oh - and Dekker did mention something about a "Blu-ray" release." Um, and that 'something' would be what?

As much as I like the first film, I do not want a sequel. It would just turn into a trendy pile of shit like anything else out now. :(

I Have Always LOVED this Movie !! And I Also Love SLITHER which seemed to be a new take on this film if anyone else noticed too (wink) . I'll buy the DVD though, and contribute :)

Wasn't Slither already a reboot/re-imagining?
