As you may have saw in the previous news post, it was announced that George Romero's next film, which has jokingly been called ...of the Dead, has received the official title of Survival of the Dead. In addition, a stack of new images have been posted on the TIFF website as the film will have its WORLD premiere at the "Midnight Madness" section come September. The latest zombie opus follows a war-weary band of soldiers who are lured to a remote island that promises to be the last paradise on earth, only to discover that even here there is no escape from the appetites of either the living or the dead.

We’re overjoyed to welcome George back into the dark hallowed halls of Midnight Madness,” says International Programmer, Colin Geddes. “And on a personal note, it’s a thrill for my inner ten-year-old, who rolled pennies to buy a VHS copy of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD."

Says Romero, “We’re in the final stages of post-production and it’s great to come up for air and find out the film’s been chosen to appear at the Festival. It’s just a terrific honor.

I hope this is better than Diary, that was an absolutely AWFUL thing. Seriously, if you're gonna go for the "this is real life and people are filming it" thing, you should at least TRY to hire decent actors and write believable dialogue and not have the "social commentary" be so goddamn heavy-handed...and not have a deaf amish guy with a chalkboard on his chest scythe himself in the face to kill the zombie behind him, that was SO retarded. That being said, Land of the Dead wasn't too bad (though still suffered from the heavy-handed social commentary) and generally his flicks are pretty solid, so maybe this won't suck as bad as Diary did.

Diary was in no way awful. Don't be a drama queen. and have heavy handed commentary? Uh, have you seen dawn of the dead? Because zombies in a mall is REAL subtle, right? Dunno what Romero film you have seen where the social commentary wasn't heavy handed. That was kind of, you know, the point?

i'll always give a romero zombie movie a chance. diary was pretty crappy, but that's the only one of his "of the dead" movies i didn't care for. i say bring on Survival of the Dead!

Those who are saying Diary was worse than Land of the Dead really need to go back and re-watch Land. This time remove the Romero goggles first, because the whole zombie leader/organized army idea was hilariously BAD.

YES YES YES! Count me IN. Romero is my favorite... and Survival looks awesome so far!

Was amazingly disappointed with Diary of the Dead, Land of the Dead wasn't anything special other than some cool effects. I will see this, but with expectations set on medium.

Everyone stop whining and give the movie a chance! If it weren't for George Romero the entire horror landscape would be different from what we know today. Give the master his due and let the film speak for itself. Resume whining.

I love all of romeros zomb films...just keep making them dude.

Romero needs to do another "Creepshow". Stephen King writing, George directing. As with the original. Give the zombies a rest George and give us something your fans REALLY want to see.

I can't help but think that the negative reaction of some to Land and Diary has more to do with association than a genuine appraisal of the films based on their own merits. Sure, both are far from perfect, but if you don't compare them to the original trilogy then you might enjoy them for what they are, slick, enjoyable, well executed movies of above average intelligence. That said, the little I've seen and heard regarding the new one doesn't exactly fill me with excitement. As much as I don't like to knock Romero I can't help but side with those who feel it's getting to the point where he's flogging a dead(pun? What pun?) horse. He's too good a filmaker to keep himself so marginalised. Time for something new George.

He definitely hit a senile wall in Diary.. I've enjoyed everything other than that turd. I'm way stoked for this, but it looks like it carries the same cheap feel of Diary. Expectations will be kept mid range.

These zombie movies are getting old. Romero stop it.. Now. Besides zombie's movies are only scary when your ten. Romero how about Dwarf of the dead, all zombie's are little people...Haha..I kid.. I kid.

I admit I enjoyed Diary for what it was, but in comparison to early Romero it was a bit lacking. Can't really complain about the acting as that has never been the focus, or the strong point, of the Romero Dead movies. It just seemed kind of lazy. Still it was dumb fun. Looking forward to this.
