New Writer Penning 'World War Z' Adaptation

During an interview of Fangoria Radio, author Max Brooks revealed that Paramount Pictures has hired Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom, Lions for Lambs, State of Play) to adapt Brooks' World War Z, original scripted by Michael Straczynski (Changeling). “He’s one of Hollywood’s hot A-list writers, so if they went after him and paid him a mountain of gold, it definitely shows their confidence in this project,” Brooks said on the show. Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) is still lined up to direct.

Loove the book. I'm not sure whether a film adaption of it is going to work, even with a good writer.

All three of these films by this "A-list" writer were boring pieces of shit. Nice job Paramount.

i'm SO happy this is still in the works!!! and i agree with Kapprika, that i too don't know how this will work as a coherently gelled together movie. they'll have to leave a LOT out. but fingers crossed!

The movies he's written are pretty bad, but maybe it's because he's always waited for something like this? who knows. I'm stoked for this no matter whose writing it to be honest, I just wanna see the battle of yonkers.

Have to agree with Kapprika. This book was amazing. After finishing it, I had to start over from page one and read through it a second time. I just don't see how it can translate successfully to film, even with an A-list writer and cast. But oh well, I'll definitely watch it though. Afterall, its World War Z!

Listened to the audiobook--Max's dad (Mel Brooks) pulled in some heavy names (Rob Reiner, Alan Alda, etc) and it was a pretty decent production. The trick to filming it will be to make cut all the narratives down to a manageable number, then film them in a chronological sequence to chart the rise and fall of the zombie uprising. Some of the less logical aspects of the book (how/why did the War come down to one apocalyptic Battle of Yonkers?) will need ironing out if the flick is gonna be anything other than your typical Hollywood action bullshit.
