Screen Gems has set Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) and Alexander Skarsgard ("True Blood") to star alongside James Marsden in Straw Dogs, a reimagining of the 1971 Sam Peckinpah film. Rod Lurie wrote the script and will direct. Shooting is scheduled to begin in August. Marsden plays a Hollywood screenwriter who relocates with his wife to her hometown in Mississippi. Bosworth plays the wife, who left the South for LA. to become an actress and returns home so her husband can finish his script in quiet. Skarsgard plays her high school boyfriend, an ex-football hero who sees the return of his former girlfriend as a way to reclaim glory. Dustin Hoffman starred in Sam Pekinpah's 'Straw Dogs' in 1971.

There's this stuff called porn. It's full of tits. You'd love it. As for a remake, I'm for it I suppose. I've always wanted to see the original but have never been able to come across it.

lol i watch raven riley and liz viscious all the time. so im pretty much familiar with it. you definetly should watch the original if you can ever find a copy of it. its completly worth it. i saw it free on demand not long ago. look up dustin hoffman movies and that should help you find it in some way or another.

Ex-football hero? Wonderful. It's Straw Dogs by way of American Pie by the sounds of things.

Another pointless remake. There is nothing wrong with the original, it holds up, doesn't need updating! What is with the remaking of excellent films? It seems if its black & white, has subtitles, or has dated clothing (which are all back in style) it needs to be remade. Straw Dogs falls in the same category as The Shining and The Exorcist as for near perfect films. Remake crap and schlock, I'm all in favor, but take a perfectly viewable movie and remake it because the audience with the most disposable income (read: dumb kids) that all things are tailored to can't relate to the soundtrack just shows that Hollywood is filled with vaccuous 20 somethings that don't have a clue, and really don't care....wow, that was a little excessive...but I feel better.

Straw Dogs is one of my most beloved films of all time. Such a great film - gritty, funny, violent, philosophical, uneven, raw & stylistic. Great performances by Dustin Hoffman and Susan George. There's no way in hell the remake will touch the brilliance of Sam Pekinpah's original Straw Dogs. This film is sacred to me.

I bet Peckinpah is rolling in his grave

This is too far really. When I first heard about the remake I was annoyed, but Marsden and Bosworth are too clean to get the grainy look the original look hoffman and (i dont now the original actress) had. Agree with Crow54, this movie is near perfection, leave it the fuck alone. Honestly, is nothing Sacred anymore?
