The Reaper Awards Coming This October

Published

on

Home entertainment industry leader Home Media Magazine and the horror insiders at DreadCentral.com have partnered to present Reaper Awards 2009 – the first awards campaign dedicated entirely to horror on home video. Read on for details.
On October 13, 2009, at the hauntingly historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, “The Grimmys” will be awarded to the best DVDs and Blu-ray Discs of the year.

“Reaper Awards is the first event of its kind to honor horror films as they are meant to be seen – raw and uncensored,” says Kyra Kudick, executive producer of the Reaper Awards. “Horror filmmakers often say they enjoy the uncensored freedom of home video. It’s time we celebrate the important role it has had, and continues to have, on the success of the genre.”

A panel of esteemed judges from the horror community will choose nominees from 13 categories, based on the quality of the films and how they are presented on home video.

Horror experts participating as judges include: Home Media Magazine’s Thomas K. Arnold, Steve “Uncle Creepy” Barton from DreadCentral.com, filmmaker Mick Garris, Brad “Mr. Disgusting” Miska of Bloody-Disgusting.com, Fangoria magazine’s Anthony Timpone, ShockTillYouDrop.com’s Ryan Turek aka “Ryan Rotten”, Jovanka Vuckovic of Rue Morgue magazine, Staci Wilson from Horror.com and a special mystery judge to be announced.

Horror fans will have the opportunity to choose “Grimmy” winners in an online consumer vote held Sept. 1 through Oct. 1 at www.ReaperAwards.com.

“Grimmy” winners will be celebrated in the famed Blossom Room with a pre-show cocktail party and dinner for sponsors and invited guests, followed by an awards show featuring celebrity presenters.

Levicitus Digital release

After releasing in theaters last month, NEON announced today that horror romance Leviticus will arrive on digital platforms to rent or own beginning July 28, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on September 8, 2026.

Leviticus marks the feature debut by writer/director Adrian Chiarella.

Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Stacy Clausen play star-crossed teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most — each other.

Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak), Jeremy BlewittEwen Leslie (The Nightingale), and Davida McKenzie (Silent Night) round out the cast of horror movie Leviticus.

Leviticus is a strong debut with an incisive voice at the helm,” I wrote in my review out of Sundance. “We care deeply about Naim and Ryan’s survival, making Leviticus a tense, atmospheric, and claustrophobic vision of young love in a hateful world.”

Leviticus is the perfect title for writer-director Adrian Chiarella‘s powerful feature debut,” Meagan’s review explains, “a searing anthem against the corrosive nature of fear and bigotry.”

The physical media release comes packed with exclusive bonus features, the home entertainment release includes a feature commentary with Adrian Chiarella, interviews with Chiarella, Stacy Clausen, and Joe Bird, an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, and the official trailer.

Look for Leviticus on Digital next week, and check out the box art for September’s Blu-ray release this September.
