One of the biggest horror project currently in development is Predators, the Robert Rodriguez produced reboot/prequel of Predators being directed by Nimrod Antal (Vacancy). Since the film's official announcement, Rodriguez has yet to officially comment on the project, until today. Below you'll find out his plans for the film that will be filming in Texas.
"It's the story from that script I had written way back then," Rodriguez told the LA Times. "They had hired me to write a ‘Predator’ story while I was waiting to do ‘Desperado’ back in 1994. It was crazy, this thing I came up with. So then fast-forward to now and, like, six months ago, they found the script and called me up. ‘Hey, we want to redo this franchise and we found your old script. This is where we should have gone with the series! We want to move forward.' And that's what we're doing.” Also stating, "It was this crazy, intense off-world story and there was just no way it could be made. The technology wasn't there yet."
The good news is 20th Century Fox, who is known for ruining films by getting over-involved, will be keeping out of this reboot.
"Predators" will be shot in his home state of Texas on a lean budget and so far removed from Hollywood that it is doesn't get run through the often bruising machinery of the studio. "Predators" is for 20th Century Fox and "Shorts" is being distributed by Warner Bros., but "Predators" will be clearly defined by Rodriguez and his personal style.
"It’ll be a mix. A lot of location sets and some green scene. There’s a lot of different places in Texas I have in mind, and we have a great rebate thing there now, only 60% has to be shot in Texas. We’re scouting for locations now. You can find some alien landscapes in Texas for sure. And with the right augmentation, you can make anywhere look like anywhere now."
The only semi good thing about fox is they don't jump onto remaking everything. They really work a franchise out instead of doing a bunch of crappy remakes like Platinum Dunes does for an easy slash and burn buck. Had it been platinum dunes I'm sure the predators would now be molesting kids and growing pot in the woods. Instead of comandos there'd be a bunch of generic annoying potheads and jocks getting killed.
I find it interesting that BD categorizes this as a horror project. Given that the Predator is a famous movie monster or creature, I can see why it merits coverage on this site, but the franchise has never been 'horror'. The first movie was deeply rooted in the action genre, and so were its sequel and the two AVP flicks.
Prequel? The fuck? It is a SEQUEL. If they're looking for Alien landscapes, that must mean it's on ANOTHER FUCKING PLANET, just like everyone's been SAYING. If it was a prequel, how would humans have the capabilities to be on another planet in the first place? THINK, God damnit, THINK. I used to have respect for this fucking place.
And ttop, you're bullshit on IMDB, and you're bullshit here.
UM... it could be a prequel. Maybe the aliens come to Earth to capture humans to set loose on their own planet to hunt. The predators could do that in the 1950s if they felt like it... they were traveling to Earth BC. I think it will probably be a sequel though. Just maybe chill a bit, Big Bad Wolf?
Fuck Texas. They keep passing those film rebates so cheap ass studios keep running there to film. Meanwhile back here in Cali out state is running out of fucking money and won't pass a decent rebate for jobs to stay here. Who the hell wants to film in Texas anyway? That place is fucking dump.
@Justincantrell
You DO realize that the Name Nimrod has more then ONE MEANING? The root of the name is Hebrew and means loosely Hunter.
anyways I digress, this should be a great film IF they can stick to what he wrote back in the 90's but I am sure things will have to change due to budget issues.
scream110 don't be a jack@ss, he may not have grown them but they were still a dumb throw in. And simply showed the little focus and care PD had for characters or the story.
Hopefully Robert will have enough influence to keep it from being complete shit as I am afraid it will be. But maybe just taking it someplace like texas and removed from standard hollywood styled settings might help it be a more interesting movie. Will I go see it? Yeah. I just dont expect much, hopefully Ill be pleasenatly surprised like I was with drag me to hell.
This is a sequel to the first to and the AVP movie but a prequel to the Aliens movie
anyway WTF are they doing in texas the Yautja/Hish come from a lush jungle like planet not a freaking desert planet
As an Austin resident, I can verify the different topography of central Texas. It's far from a desert landscape. The Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw remakes were shot in central Texas. Does that scream desert to you?
huh...sounds interesting. hope they dont fuck it up.
