Actually if anyone has ever read the miniseries "Deadtime" which is co-written by James O'Barr, that had a 'gritty realism' that could be adapted and turned into a film. It was also a new set of characters, whilst being true to the original. I rather liked it, and the Alex Maleev art was really well done, and had a more real edge to it. I could see this being turned into a film. And for all it's flaws I did like the 3rd Crow film. At least it had a more enjoyable cast, and Eric Mabius was the best Crow since Brandon Lee, if only they could have made the movie more of a mystery than it was. But I imagine that the producers must feel they have something on their hands otherwise they would not gamble with a theatrical release of this. Not saying that it will be good (I will not judge till I see it), but this is not a normal comic book adaptation, so unless they plan to do a PG-13 adaptation (which would be shite in my eyes), I don't know why they are trying this now. It seems like every producer is trying to cash in on the so-called 'comic book movie craze', which is ok, if they try something different. If they want dark, why not do Matt Wagner's Grendel, or someone actually get off their heiny and do the bloody Werewolf BY Night film. I could even see a reboot of ManThing, as it was abyssmal, and not even close to the heart of Steve Gerber's muck monster. The Crow got it right, and is the only movie in the franchise that O'Barr acknoledges, so let's move on, unless they do a 'Deadtime' adaptation like I mention before.
