I've never even considered Preadator to be a horror film. It is a sci-fi version of The Most Dangerous Game. And I disagree with you mr_halloween24_7, the original was a taut lean script. Sure Awnold was in it, but he was actually believable as a Special Forces commander. The movie is a well made sci-fi/action piece, while it may not be Citezen Kane of filmmaking it delivers the goods. You have an amazing creature, good kills and killer stunts. Likable characters, and an ending which is not a cop-out (albeit improbable, if the second was correct in it's estimation of ground zero). Done by Diehard's John McTiernan who has an amazing movie career (minus Rollerball and Last Action Hero). Now if Rodriguez is serious in making this a serious film, we could have a new 'Aliens' on our hands. He has the pull to make it happen, but does he have the drive and courage. He tends to make a lot of things tongue in cheek, which kind of works for some projects, but cause others to fall short. Planet Terror was an homage to Night of the Living Dead, The Thing, and other end of the world flicks from his childhood, but at times it felt uneven. I liked it, but I would have liked it better if it had picked a tone and stuck with it. As long and drawn out as Death Proof was, a few cuts and it would have been much better. The Faculty is another that comes to mind. But he has also delivered excellent fare as Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, El Mariachi, and Deperado. So I wish him all the luck.
