Rodriguez Speaks On 'Predators', Director Confirmed

Really, they could pretty much hire any director to helm Predators and it would be a step up from the "Brothers Strause" who directed AVP: Requiem (if you can call that nonsense directing). But as one of the few who enjoyed Vacancy (until that copout ending) and also his older, non-horror film Kontroll, I am pretty happy with the confirmation of Nimrod Antal as the man to take charge of this re-whatever. Of course, I was just as happy with Neil Marshall, and also some of the other names I heard, but at least they are solid directors, not VFX guys who learned how to yell "action" and "cut" and nothing else. Read on for a few tidbits straight from Robert Rodriguez's mouth; head over to AICN for the full article (confirming Latino Review's early report) complete with Harry's take on the matter!

Rodriguez, on Antal:

First of all, on a personal level I found him to be an outstanding presence, a great communicator full of ideas, and upon meeting him you can immediately understand how he is able to wrangle cast and crew and get the best out of everyone. I always loved Kontroll, where he proved himself to be a very resourceful and original filmmaker. When I saw Armored, I could tell he's also great with action and has a keen eye for casting. He reminded me of Quentin with how he was able to work with a group of very strong, singular actor talents and make it look effortless. I know he'll be able to get the most out of what we want to be an outstanding cast. We really want to go with a character driven action movie, because that's what we all remember about the original Predator, and we want to take it even further with this.

Would have rather seen Neil Marshall, but I do like the choice still. I am really excited about this I dont understand why but excited non the less. I wonder if they will change the predator design at all?

As the article points out, im sure anyone could do a better job than the 'hacks strausse', and setting this on the predator home world, sweeeet !

I'm glad its not a remake that means there's gonna be a lot less bitchin about it. Sounds awesome!

Nimrod Antal is a solid choice...I really liked Vacancy to a point and Kontroll was a bit slow if anything but very nicely filmed. Should be interesting...

I'm not impressed. When I first heard Robert Rodriguez would be directing this I was really excited. Then Neil Marshall's name came up and I was even more excited. But now... Nimrod who? Vacancy?... Oh please. They may as well bring back Paul Anderson.

Anything will be better than the two AVP shitfests. Looking forward to this.

Here's wishing Nimrod Antal the best of luck; hopefully he can deliver a solid genre flick with *real* Predators in it. Screw those 'AVP' Klingons.

It's a sequel. It's no different than how the last "Rambo" film was called just that, instead of "Rambo 4". It's been so long since the last "Predator" film, that they ditched the number sequence. Come on, guys. As many slasher movies as you folks have probably seen, and you can't realize that? It's just as much a reboot as "Rambo" was. As for Nimrod Antal, I'm happy with this news. He's certainly better than the Strause idiots.

i hope they dont screw this one up like the previous Predator/Alien films, which BLEW. my wife is a total fan of the OLD, original graphic novel and has hated every film thus far.

i loved the hell out of vacancy, watched it loads of times. i would have loved to have seen rodriguez get this project to direct, but along with tarantino and eli roth, he is definately someone who needs to 'get over himself' - perhaps this will take some of the wind out of his sails and realize he's just a guy working a job like the rest of us. should have been Neil Marshall... I was much more excited when he was attached... will give Nimrod's new movie Armored a chance but I bet Marshall's new movie Centurion will be far and away better... with RR producing Preds will still be fun to watch

Dear GAWD, just let this be a real sequel and not all watered down like Hollywood seems to love doing to our beloved franchises lately. When Predator and its sequel came out... they weren't for kids. They were hard R movies. Remember Jesse Ventura getting blasted through the chest? Remember the Predator walking away with the voodoo guy's head? Remember the skinned bodies hanging everywhere? That was Predator, and that's what they need to get back to. Far too much talking and not enough brutal badassery (is that a word..?), all because filmmakers want the kids to experience the series and sell a few toys. Hell with that, go back to the roots, Predators KILL people. Brutally! This bitch better not be PG-13.

I cant see this being a watered down version of Predator. I enjoyed Vacancy and this news has made me interested in what Antal will do with the material. If anything, its gonna be better than the AvP films.

Well, look on the bright side - at least Quentin Tarantino doesn't have his hands on this or the term and I quote "Goddamn Sexual Tyrannosaurs" would have been taken literally.

I was hoping for Neil Marshall but this is still good news. The only thing I didn't like about Vacancy was the ending.

I hope for a good one. I've only seen one good predator movie.

goombatommy how are you cracking on Tarantino? Unless your movies are better? Is there something I'm missing here? I'll take Tarangtino anyday!!!

I love how the people who spend every night and day sucking Rob Zombie's dick can criticize the directing on AVP. Viva La Internet!
