Earlier today, the LA Times posted their interview with Matt Reeves, director of the upcoming Let The Right One In remake, Let Me In. In it, he shed some light on the new setting and updates everyone on when the film will be hitting theatres.
Reeves recently finished his second draft of the script, which is now set in Reagan-era Colorado, and is currently scouting locations that will maintain the film and book's snowy landscapes. Although he didn't mention when shooting is planned to start (from the sounds of it, it'll probably be this winter if he plans to take advantage of the necessary weather conditions on his location shoots), he stated that the release date is now Fall 2010, as opposed to January 15.
Also, Reeves is working with casting director Avy Kaufman to find the two leads for the film and "vows [the children] will not be aged-up to make the film more of a smoldering 'Twilight'-style romance," so everyone can rest easy tonight.
Well that's a relief..kinda...Hopefully they will maintain the mature and very dark tone of the original. I hate to see a remake, but I'd really hate a watered-down version...
I just want him to make another Cloverfield!!!!!. He should film it in Detroit at Belle Isle. That would be great!!! Only people from Detroit know what im talking about.
Well good news that they aren't gonna go the Twilight route, but I still think that they should just leave this one alone, as the film we already have is damn near flawless.
The first was perfect...I'm not against remakes, but like Rec, the original was so good, even if the remake is solid, it will suffer by comparion.
As Kyle said, the movie is damn near flawless, so it's best if he would just leave it and do cloverfield 2.
I'm glad they're using the title Let Me In (the title the publishers of the book in America first used) so it won't be necessary to distinguish between the films ("No, I'm talking about the 2008 Let The Right One In, not the 2010 version". Hopefully Reeves will be able to tackle some of the darker stuff let out of the original (Hakan's pedophilia, the castration, more stuff with some of the secondary characters). Also happy about them keeping the ages - Good Luck Reeves!
That's true- there are elements from the book that were left out in the original.
But I can't help but thinking, with young actors, that it would have been too much for a film sequence- that's my theory why the original screenplay left it out anyway.
Has anyone read the book by the way? Excellent, one of my favourite books (and movies for that matter).
I agree that it will be difficult to top the original, but the point of this remake is taking a foreign film (Like rec, The Grudge) and giving it mass distribution and marketing with a big studio and a wide release that it would not receive otherwise and hopefully make a profit.
It must be working because Hollywood continues to do it.
What the fuck?! Just release the REAL movie in theaters...with dubs if they need to. Why in the hell are we even touching the original?!?!? Fuck Big-Hollywood and all of their unoriginal pieces of shit US remakes.
I thought the movie was okay, definitely not deserving of all the hype ot got though. My main issue was the fact that they didn't include the main baddy. I kept on thinking, any minute now....but nope. Vhanged the character name and left out the main vampire. Daft. The book was amazing though, really emotive beautiful stuff
Yeah, the original WAS perfect. If he just does his own interprtation of the book instead of remaking the film then it will stand a better chance.
Do you think US censors would approve of a movie like this?
I understand that they'd want to reach a broader audience by remaking it, but if you can't bother to sit through movie like this either reading subs, or (guh) watching a dubbed version, then you're likely missing out on all the little things that make movies such as this so good.
I agree that a re-adaptation would be better than a remake. The original movie left out the last quarter of the book. I'd love to see the American version take on the truly horrifying final monster. I loved the original film, but have high hopes for the new one.
NO NO NO NOOOOO that is going to be a fucking epic fail!!!!!
