Now here's a random story that just came in from one of our regular tipsters. We're told that Paul Schrader - the man behind Taxi Driver and Raging Bull - is penning the current draft of Tomie, the English-language remake of Japanese horror franchise that has spawned seven sequels, comic books and TV shows in it's homeland. Described as a supernatural Fatal Attraction, when a young man brings his fiancée home for the first time, his father is stunned. She's the same girl he loved- and killed - 25 years ago. Now she wants him back. Tomie pits father against son in a deadly battle for her love. The film is no longer being developed by Dimension Films.
Most of the Tomie movies were crap. However Takashi Shimizu helmed one that was pretty decent and the mangas are very cool. Plus the concept itself is great. She's a pretty creepy bitch. I'll be interested to see how this develops.
I'm actually not down on this remake like I am others. Tomie is pretty good in its original form but the addition of Paul Schrader in the writing department picques my interest like crazy.
Dominion was terrible but it was miles out of Schrader's ballpark. If he's let off the leash here he could get serious mileage from this source material. Interested.
