Whether or not the audience liked it or not doesn't really sway my opinion. In the more recent times, there are a LOT of movies(particularly horror movies) that the audience LOVED, but I felt was crap. Particularly mainstream horror flicks. For instance, the audience LOVED Freddy Vs Jason, but that movie was shit. If it's like that, and the audience were expecting CW crap but got a movie with the majority of the cast being unknowns, who knows. If this is more a hark back to the older slasher days(and modern audiences can't wrap their minds around horror that doesn't star their favorite Supernatural or The Hills star), I just might think differently from the audience. And, actually, I wouldn't mind Craven taking a few more stabs at supernatural slashers. He created Freddy Krueger, gave us, probably, the best NOES movie yet(at least IMO, the first movie's the best, with New Nightmare, and Dream Warriors following). Shocker turned out bad for many reasons, though I liked it nonetheless, and Craven's stated that when he remakes it(which he'll be having a direct part of, not just producing it), it will be the way he wanted to make it, with all the SFX perfect(the SFX company pulled out in last minute during the original, so they had to get people in the last minute) and uncut violence(they had to trim, seemingly, a lot from Craven's original just get an R-rating, though I'm sure they'd let him slide now).
