Update: 'The Stepfather' HD Trailer Now Online

This morning B-D reader Joey M. tipped us off to the trailer for The Stepfather remake, which was directed by Prom Night's Nelson McCormick. While I typically shy away from Sony Screen Gems movies (they're made for kids), seeing Dylan Walsh from "Nip/Tuck" and the sexy, sexy Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) have made it worth checking out. What did you guys think of the trailer? I got a kick out of the "America's Most Wanted" image that looks nothing like Walsh's character. Screen Gems has slated the pic for release on October 16th, 2009.

Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand. Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side?

Its looks just like Disturbia meets When a Stranger Calls. Dumb and dumber.

Yeah, I'd probably rent it, but it looks a little teen WB kinda crap.

It looks pretty good but the original is kick ass

Having recently realized I actually hate Sean in Nip/Tuck - a realization it's taken me five years to come to - I was kind of skeptical about whether I'd be able to watch this without wanting to smash Dylan Walsh's face in. Turns out he's probably the only one I don't want to hit. Not so sure about this, kind of looks more like DTV fodder than something deserve of a theatrical release.

"Its looks just like Disturbia meets When a Stranger Calls. Dumb and dumber." Exactly

Looks alright...love the choice for the stepfather and glad Amber has a bit of a big role in this and the part with he grabbing the kids neck was creepy. I wanna see this. For Amber Heard...

It might have some potential. It looks like a good turn into a psycho at the end. I just want them to re-release the original on dvd with a special edition or something.

Disturbia was the first thing that came to mind when watching the trailer. This may be a remake, but this still looks like teen-thriller shit that's been coming out in recent years...Don't even think I'll rent it- It looks like that much of a waste of time.

That guy is about as menacing as an old lady with a nailfile. Why can't people cast actors who can achieve being a nice guy and then turn right around and be terrifying? Terry O' Quinn made it happen in spades, but this guy just doesn't cut it(pun intended).

Terry O' Quinn will always be the Stepfather, but Amber Heard.....hoo boy, makes me want to see it.

This actually looks pretty intense...but it does sort of remind me of Disturbia, except this time the killer is the stepfather instead of the neighbor. In any case, I always enjoy Screen Gems flicks for their mindless entertainment value, and this one looks like it might actually be scary for once. Also, any film with Amber Heard is a must-see in my opinion.

I'm loading the trailer now, and I think I'll go see it. I like Amber Herd and Sela Ward. I will not, however, compare it to the original.

Holy shit this looks pretty fucking good! I bet that all the people that are saying this looks lame is just because it's a remake.

this looks awesome. n in all honestly i like screen gems movies. except The Fog, that was fricken horrible. the bit at the end with the buzz saw is fricken psychotic.

Definitely agree with those who mentioned Disturbia. Replace Stepfather with neighbor and it looks like almost the same movie. It even looks like the same neighborhood! That said, it doesn't look too bad. Hopefully, it's as entertaining as Disturbia was.

See I knew this would happen. Focus on the jerk off young Ambercrombie models. At least the kept the line "Who am I here?"

Yup, another shitty PG-13 remake starring a bunch of a hot young actors. The plus side: Dylan Walsh seems like he's being really true to Terry O'quinn's character. The way he talks and such is all very reminiscent.
