'Friday the 13th' Sequel Finally Getting Chilly, Cooler Kills!

After the success of New Line Cinema's Friday the 13th reboot, which grossed over 65m here in the States, it was quickly announced that Platinum Dunes was returning to produce a sequel to the film that would also reunite writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. After the first round of visits to the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street, reporters returned with first word on the sequel - it will be quite a white time of year. Read on for the skinny.

Friday the 13th (2009) Jason VoorheesMy personal problem with the first FRIDAY was the lack of interesting or jump-out-of-your-seat kills, Producer Brad Fullers Acknowledges the first film's flaws.

"If we're vulnerable on [the first film], it's that people thought our kills weren't clever enough, so whatever we need to do to make those kills seem clever in the second film is what we're going to do," Fuller told Hitflix on set in Chicago.

But something that horror fans have been dreaming about since the possibilities of a Freddy vs Jason 2 was the idea of takings viewers to Camp Crystal Lake in the winter. While the site nails home that nothing is set in stone, Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller does tell them that it's an idea they're open to.

The best news is that we might be seeing this in theaters as early as next summer!

"'Friday the 13th Part 2,' we don't have a script, it's not green-lit, and we have no idea what's going to happen," Fuller told the site. "If it gets green-lit and we're able to mount it in a reasonable amount of time, we would hope the movie would open on August 13, 2010."

Oh! I loved the reboot. Bring on 'Part 2'. My only problem is that visiting Camp Crystal Lake in the winter won't be as... affective. Snow? Hmm... Black Christmas--, I mean Crystal Lake.

Setting it in the snow is fine. I'm more concerned that Part 2 won't just be another watered down version of "Jason's Greatest Hits". The deaths in the movie lacked any sort of impact. The best and most memorable was the dock death. Every thing else was pretty tame for an F13 movie. And after a while it was more like "100 different ways to kill with a machete". They should really mine the past and get some of the most memorable deaths from the series and pump them with adrenaline for example these deaths always stood out: The wheelchair death in part 2, Andy getting split apart while he's on his hands in part 3, these deaths would be good if revisited. Also another issue is Jablonsky's score. It really needed to take cues from the earlier film. The score was way too minimal and lacked creepiness. Every time I hear the music in the scene of part 3 where Chris is in the cabin and Rick is being held outside I love it as it's one of the best pieces of musical score in the series. The new movie lacked that. Bottom line, less boobs, better kills. If the overabundance of boobs leads to tamer deaths, then cut them out. I'd rather see a F13 movie that is all about good stalk, chase, kill sequences. I can get boobs for free on Xtube.

eh it was bound to happen sooner or later....the remake wasnt that bad, but idk how they would do the second one...personally id rather see freddy vs jason 2 (but ONLY englund as freddy one last time, but i highly doubt that)...that would be different seeing camp blood in the winter.

Hope there's not any annoying comedy bits in this one. They should really take ques from part 4. In that one Jason was actually scary, & an absolute f'en beast in that one. Also keep the guy that played u'm in the remake. He did a great job, just sucks he was in a crappy movie.

Love it...if they could have it out anywhere near next August...that SOON...I would be very happy...and I agreed...the kills sucked, but I still enjoyed the movie.

Friday the 13th part 4 was hilarious...crispin glover was awesome. but jason was also badass. I really enjoyed the remake but ya the kills weren't great like in the originals. I was really hoping jason was going to spear those two having sex in the bed just like in part 2.

I think it would be kind of funny and interesting to see friday the 13th in the winter. it would also be the 1st time we would see this so im kind of hoping then would make it in the snow.

writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are AWFUL. ABYSMAL. etc..... i DID like much of the FRIDAY reboot but 1. Fuller needs to keep his mouth shut and STOP promising things he DOES NOT deliver (remember the DVD that will be like a "whole different movie"...?) and 2. get different writers (FvJ and the writing in FRIDAY were AWFUL). that being said, i welcome the FRIDAY sequel ESPECIALLY if set in winter!! VERY COOL!

Love how he says "we don't have a script, it's not green-lit, and we have no idea what's going to happen" BUT he already has a release date to hit. What a joke.

If you want to see Friday the 13th in a winter setting look up a very well made film that came out called Cold Prey.Fantastic looking film shot nice and wide with great killings and a very good story. What I would do is go back to the very start and give jason's mom a go at it.IT worked well for Texas Chainsaw films.

DevilNeverCry81, i couldn't agree w/ you more! you are SPOT ON with the entire assessment of this movie. the score (LAZY & UNINSPIRED and it's Jablonsky...he's usually AWESOME!), less porn footage please. MORE character development (yes, even for a FRIDAY movie it helps to have some of that!) and the kills need to be memorable and NOT just MACHETE MAN.

movieeddie ABSOLUTELY!! COLD PREY 1 and ESPECIALLY COLD PREY 2 (an even BETTER sequel!!) are phenomenal!!!!

I think it would be interesting to see it set in the winter time. I know Id see it regardless.

I enjoyed the first one. But like most are saying, the kills were very uncreative. There was absolutely no tension building moments. And the score was a snooze. They also missed some great opportunities to really make the movie more intense. One example would be when, at the beginning, Whitney was running from Jason's cabin and they were filming down on her running down the path, they should have panned the camera and shown Jason running after her in the distance - add that and some "killer" music, and that scene would have had an awesome feel of tension. There were several moments that could have been a lot better. I think it comes down to the writers bland imagination. I would definitely go another route with writers. These guys have no semblance of creativity whatsoever. I'm up for part two for sure, but they HAVE to come up with more clever kills, more jumps, better music, and more tension. Not to mention a very important aspect that was missing from the movie: the famous ki ki ki ma ma ma. It was barely in the movie at all.

My problem with it was the same as most of yours. No passion in the project, the fact that every character looked the same. Also it was just the first four films wrapped into one. I really like the winter idea, if you look at american beauty and road to perdition everytime someone got killed in all white rooms the blood was just that much more powerful in those scenes I think winter is the step that needs to be taken. Also a revision of the Tommy Jarvis character would be fantastic cause lets face it thats Jason's Loomis.

And one more thing I get that Jason in the remake was huge and hulking but for the love of god the robocop sound effects when he ran were retarded! It sounded like an elephant running on a sound stage boo on that

Anyone who endorses this film loses all credibility as a horror fan IMHO

Sounds like a good idea to me, but why Damian Shannon and mark swift, they suck ass. Get new writers with good ideas!

God I can't wait! I loved the reboot. It's been my favorite so far! I pray they do get this in on 8/13/10!

was it just me or was the flaw with the first one more story development than clever kills. I mean you can kill them however you want as long as the characters aren't sooooo stereotypical and you create some suspense. But wasn't the reboot basically a reboot and a sequel in the same film. Why not go and figure out what happened to jason in his missing years... why he is alive after drowning???? no one has touched that.

Jason4eva
3:27pm, June 15, 2009

Also Jason isn't about gore and shocking kills people! To feel like Jason you have to have him at crystal lake with his machete.I thought the kills were great! Even the arrow through the head was like WOW FOR JASON!!!! We are all to spoilt by our shocking kills in movies like the Final Destinations, MBV,ECT.But...we can't put that on Jason....IT ISN'T JASON!

"My personal problem with the first FRIDAY was the lack of interesting or jump-out-of-your-seat kills" my personal problem was that all the charectors sucked badly had no interest in any but the chinese dude, pretty good as a slasher but Friday 13th it was not :(
