Sci-Fi Squad writes some really interesting news that comes in via a new interview with Guillermo del Toro on BBC Radio, "Del Toro let loose that he's already cast friend (and collaborator) Doug Jones as Frankenstein in his planned adaptation of the classic tale, and will begin testing things like make-up within the next few weeks -- though he admits (to Digital Spy) that he's "not in a hurry" and is perfectly fine shooting the film five or six years from now. 'You have one shot in your lifetime at these things and I don't want to do it the wrong way.' " The article doesn't specify if Jones will be playing Dr. Frankenstein or his beautiful creation.

He's gigantic and scary. He's gotta be playing the monster. That would be perfect casting.

Awesome as long as they make frankenstein's monster look and act like frankenstein's monster, and Iam talking bout the (1931) classic Karloff frankenstein's monster, not some guy who looks like he just crawled out of a car accident.

Holy crap. Boris is so burnt into my skull that I can't imagine Doug in the role... which is perfect. Do what you like Del Toro. Your heart is in the right place and you love the material just as much, if not more than us whacked out fans. Would love to see Doug as the Dr. though. It's about time we got to appreciate this master as a flesh and blood actor without the weight of being an armature.

Well I can see doug being the monster. Shoot one of the better adaptions besides the original was the one Christopher Lee played the momster in for hammer. As long it doesn't turn out like Mary Shelly's Frankenstein it will be fine.

Hmmm if they are aiming for a skinny Frankenstein's monster, it could look original !

He'll definitely play frankensteins monster. I hope this is a faithful adaptation of the book. And is a long fcker. Epic long. Then they can faithfully adapt Dracula and there'd be three great monster movies. Including the wolfman of coarse. Unfortunately we already know Jekyll and Hyde will suck since Keanu reeves was cast. It shows the direction they are taking it. The mummy is terrible but can someone even make a cool mummy film? Creature from the black lagoon hopefully will be done great.

I'm sorry but this isn't going to be ANY FUCKING GOOD. Even when I come on this site I see flash animation banners re-dressing the Friday The 13th franchise that owes so much to Tom Savini. And now Boris Karloff is going to be rolling in his grave. Honestly you can NEVER beat the original classics. Especially Frankenstein. When people think horror films they usually date it back to that. And what's this about Benicio Del Toro being in the Wolfman? Sure you're a fucking hairy dude, doesn't mean you can howl at the moon like Karloff.

correction the woflman was played by lon chaney jr. nevertheless it's a disgrace.

Wow boy_ghost, you seem fairly angry there. I am gonna have to agree to disagree though, as much as I hold the Classic Uni monster movies high myself, there is always room for an update provided they gather together a group of individuals that care. And I will also disagree with your statement about originals always being better...take for instance, The Fly. I love the Vincent Price starrer, but Cronenberg's film is a masterpiece, and far superior. John Carpenter's The Thing, also far superior to the already good Hawks version. And the Hammer films could be considered remakes for their time, and I think their Dracula is considerable better, and they even have a far more intense Dracula in Lee, although I still think Shreck is the possible the most intense. All the remakes I mentioned we made with love and care, and if this same appreciation (which Del Toro has in spades) then this could be a wonderful movie. And it will not disrespect Karloff...his films will always be there. I could see you feeling this way about Van Helsing, but this is a movie not even out yet, give it a chance yet.

Thank you EricCord, points as solid as my intimate muscle after a few levitras! I hate remake bashing, even though a good majority suck cow tits, those few mentioned were genuine gems... And notice they were handled by brilliant talent. Del Toro is in every sense a brilliant talent. And quite fat.

Its been years since there was a really good version of Frankenstein. I rekon Del Toro could do it justice.
