Fox Wants Ridley Scott Behind the Camera For 'Alien'

Entertainment Weekly, who has been keen on reporting ill news as of late (Scream remake), is claiming that 20th Century Fox has yet to sign off on commercial director Carl Rinsch to get behind the camera for the Alien "prequel", news we broke here on B-D a few weeks back. "The filmmakers and Fox, the studio that owns the rights to the franchise, seem to have conflicting ideas about who should direct," they write adding that the studio wants Ridley Scott to return to the helm, "the studio is not interested in greenlighting a prequel unless Scott himself directs." Thanks for the credit EW.

well, if they INSIST on doing this, the fact they'd want Ridley to direct is a VERY smart move.

oh how it makes me laugh when Fox actually shows some integrity. If they DO bring back Ridley, I'll actually watch this shizz.

Don't know about this.......we've seen the effects of Fox Studio corporate blowhards have on movies that have the potential to kick major ass. And it's always a negative effect.

see fox screw it up. see fox lose ridley, tony and their hand picked director.

no matter who directs it,it'll never capture the rawness of the 70's.

They always say the same garbage before talks of a new Alien film are out - and Ridley is never interested. Besides, would Alien be enough with Ridely behind the camera yet no Sigourney?

i don't give a flying f__k if the director of the 1st ALIEN film is being asked to direct the 5th film, Ridley's style has changed too much over the years, and NOT for the better, he is too busy blowing Russell Crowe to be a great director anymore, i think he use to be a standout film director, now...he's like all the rest, if Fox wants to really make a great ALIEN inspired sci-fi film, they need to hire Chris Cunningham to direct it - - NOT Ridley Scott...his days of making great films are o-v-e-r.

a prequel is a retarded idea for the alien movies.

There might be some light of hope if Ridley Scott directs but...I don't know.

A prequel with Scott involved is fine but the real problem here is they need to finish the first storyline which has been dangling sine 1996? or whatever. They can produce the greatest Prequel in the history of cinema and it will not fix the mess of leaving the series off where they did. And that's what we're all disgusted about isn't it? The abomination of the AVP series and the fact that they ditched ALIEN 5 to make AVP. A PREQUEL doesn't sound bad it just doesn't solve the problem. A REMAKE is absolutely disgraceful and anyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.

"Entertainment Weekly" eh? I went looking for this and failed to find it. My research skills are just less than a PhD, but maybe you could point me to it? And while your at it.. how-about pointing us to where EW got these quotes. Thanks a ton. This will help me a great deal in my research endeavours.

Ridley directing would be the ultimate good news regarding this topic and I don't see why he wouldn't want to do it since he's been showing his interest for making another alien movie based on their home planet, like forever. But he probably changed his mind about directing it and would now rather hand over the opportunity to some "padawan" from his company to start a "movie" career, which is bad news for the rest of the world. Still, great to finally see a continuation of the franchise rather than a stupid remake like "Predators" or nothing.

I want either Ridley Scott or James Cameron..the 2 guys that did the 2 best alien films..n e one else can rot in hell..unless adam green wants to do it cuz well he rocks!

I actually love Alien 3 as much as the first two. The combination of a prequel and Ridley as director is the smartest move for the franchise. Can't wait!

I would say that Ridley is the only director that can do this film justice. I hope this is true. By the way, David Fincher directed a great installment of this franchise and it is superior to Cameron's overrated mess of a film in every way.

But does Ridley want to be behind the camera for Fox????

If this is a prequel, not a remake I'm happy because the idea of remaking films in an on going franchise is stupid- AVP2 came out less than 2 years ago. Ridley Scott directing would also be great news as it gets the fans trust and he won't want to do a remake but maybe somnething different.

Thank god they are making a prequel and not a remake. Hope Ridley says yes to direct it.

first good news about this crap idea. so there might still be light at the end of the tunnel after al

I am sure glad this is not a remake, but I am not sure what they can do with a prequel. The beacon they followed did not lead to a human ship. So, what, do we get a movie all about a group of "good" alien marines vs. the xenomorphs? No matter what they do, it will be tough to make an interesting prequel that has reasonable continuity with the original. At least it is not Alien 5. As far as I am concerned, the series ended with Ripley, Hicks, Bishop, and Newt taking off in the shuttle. I would like to see an Alien 3 that continues from there without making the dick move of killing everybody but Ripley in the first 5 minutes. I mean, seriously, they could get Sigourney Weaver, but they couldn't manage Michael Biehn?

Would rather have O'Bannon back writing than Scott directing.

Suggested director: Joss Whedon. As in "Serenity" and "Firefly" mental state - co-writing with Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett - directing as well. The best flick ever on the quadrilogy is without a doubt "Aliens". James' Cameron troopers on the "bad road" trip - wide angles, heavy machinery, a brilliant script, lots of gore, die-hard action-packed, full throttle imagery... 2+ bloody disgusting hours. That's an Alien flick! Ridley Scott was the edge back in '79, James did it too in '86. CGI works great but mechatronics are simply what Alien concept is about. Hard core, old school filming, the true way to make believe a film is real. No green wall, no cables for the flyin'... Face-to-face interaction with the xeno. That's Alien.
