We received an interesting scoop this evening as we've learned that Spitfire Pictures is producing The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, a remake of the classic 1974 Hammer Film starring Peter Cushing. Professor Van Helsing (Cushing) and Count Dracula (John Forbes-Robinson) meet again in this kung fu horror spectacular set in the village of Ping Kuei. After learning about the Seven Golden Vampires of the village, Hsi Ching (David Chiang), Vanessa Beren, and Mai Kwei offer to guide Ven Helsing and his son to Ping Kuei to free it from the curse of Count Dracula. Throughout their journey, the party encounters several unwanted attackers until they arrive at the golden vampires' derelict temple, inhabited by Count Dracula. It is here, in this eerie place, where Van Heling and the Count begin a battle-to-the-death where good and evil collide, and only one man is left standing.

I never liked the first film- it was a bad end to Hammer's wonderful Dracula seies. I'm against another remake, but I really don't care.

Well atleast they're finding films in need of a reimaging. Plot sounds pretty fun.

Nothing but good things can come from remaking Hammer horror films. Most of them were tales with simple special fx - good stories that can be rehashed to better production value and bring attention to a horror subgenre that deserves more.

Why bother even remaking this piece of shit? Its still shit. Even the title sucks!

I love Hammer, and I even have a small soft spot in my heart for Seven Golden Vampires, mainly because of the great Peter Cushing. Remaking this just means that originality is at absolute zero.

I agree with you Marrone the films are great storys that in the right hands can be turned into new age classics.Long live Hammer Films.

While I disagree with JohnMarrone (without Lee, Cushing, and direction from Terrance Fisher any revision of Hammer's best would suck) they are right for remaking one of the worst of the Hammer films, rather than an actual classic. This failure was what was left of another great franchise after Hammer ran it into the ground with Dracula AD and Satanic Rites of Dracula. Even Cushing couldn't save this mess.

I have been a Hammer fan for decades. There are definately some Hammer films that would have been great, but the effects weren't as developed and the budgets were too low. "Legend" is one of them. But why isn't the New Hammer remaking it? A remake of "Quatermass and the Pit" would be great, as well. Sometimes...just sometimes...remakes are good ideas.
