'Scream' Reboot or Not? Craven Still Open to Directing

The Digital Spy caught up with horror master Wes Craven who explains that the new planned Scream trilogy is a continuation of the series (kind of), as we previously reported, as opposed to a remake like Entertainment Weekly explained. "I don't think it's a reboot and Kevin, when he talked to me, said, 'Remember, it's not just Scream 4, it's Scream 5 and 6.' So I guess he has a trilogy in mind," he tells the site. Craven also confirms that he isn't opposed to directing it. You can read all of the details by clicking the link.

I thought the idea of remaking it sounded a bit funny. But it didn't suprise me with the lack of original ideas in hollywood. Anyway, good news

So yeah I guess it's more of a spin off/a new trilogy than either a reboot or a direct sequel to the original trilogy? If so then that's exactly what I wanted so I'm happy :)

Sounds better than the reboot rumors, yeah. A spin-off is a much better idea than just doing the whole thing over again. It'd be nice if it were connected to Sidney's story and such, even if her story isn't advanced any further (as that might be quite hard to do now).

Forget making Scream! If you want to reboot it or remake it or whatever make Stab!

as long as neve at least makes a cameo she IS scream can't be done without her the first ever non-annoying female lead in horror.

i can see them doing a storyline where the movie-within-the-movie "STAB" is getting a remake, and then they have to go through the "rules of surviving a remake" or something.... like "the killer is always bigger and stronger" and "the cast is prettier" and so forth.

JohnMarrone: I know! I was thinking the same thing. Back to the topic at hand: I'm definitely not opposed to a continuation in some way, but a remake just feels too damn soon. I saw the original Scream in theaters for god sake.

OK maybe the idea behind the remake is to kinda make it a black comedy horror with new rules, do to all the new horror films getting remakes.

One of mt forum users found this too,i read it and was happy with what i read.. He's not saying no still and i can understand him being weary of a bad script or story,i just hope Williamson does what he did with the first film, which was to surprise us all and give a kick ass movie! With wes on board it will be a big bonus! No word on Neve though!

lord, I'm ready for some new ideas. Scream had its time in the sun--let's give some young unknown filmmakers with fresh perspectives the money that we're throwing at hacks like Kevin Williamson.

I'm in favor of this as long as Wes Craven is behind the camera and Kevin Williamson is writing. At least this way there is a 98% chance this will be really good
