Cam Gigandet is quickly becoming a horror "item" as he's previously starred in The Unborn and Twilight, while also taking on role in Overture's forthcoming sci-fi horror flick Pandorum and Sony Screen Gems' thriller The Roommate. Now the young star is heading back to the vampire genre as he'll be starring alongside Paul Bettany in Screen Gems' Priest, Scott Charles Stewart's TokyoPop comic book adaptation. Cam Gigandet will star opposite Paul Bettany in "Priest," a horror Western that Scott Stewart is directing for Screen Gems.
Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic book, "Priest" is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece. That latter part has yet to be cast.
Michael De Luca and Stars Road Entertainment's Josh Donen are producing along with Mitchell Peck.
Culpepper and senior vp production Eric Paquette are overseeing the project.
The "Priest" deal follows on the heels of Gigandet joining the cast of Screen Gems' "Easy A," a comedic re-imagining of "The Scarlet Letter," starring Emma Stone and Amanda Bynes. Gigandet is playing a third-time senior in high school who still hasn't graduated.
Gigandet, repped by WME Entertainment, is filming Screen Gems' thriller "The Roommate" with Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly. The actor is coming off of winning an MTV Movie Award for best fight, awarded for his work in "Twilight." Gigandet won the award the previous year for "Never Back Down," making him the only actor to win it in back-to-back years.
When I saw "Never Back Down" I was like, Who is this guy?! I hadn't seen his brief appearances on tv shows before. With 3 movies in a row I like, I think he's got a great career ahead of him. Apparently so, since I just checked his upcoming slate and he's got 8 movies listed as coming out this year to 2011.
How does one become "part vampire?" It sounds like a cool movie, but I hope they explain the "part vampire" thing. Is it just another contribution to race like "part italian" or "part chinese?" Anyone know? I haven't read any of these comics.
elmstwhore. Blade was half human / half vampire cuz his mother was bit by a vamp when he was in the womb. Angel from Buffy is sort of part vamp cuz he was a vampire with a soul and didnt kill humans. it aint hard to pull off. spoken like a true blue nerd!
'Priest' is about fallen angels and zombies, not vampires. I wish they were making a more faithful adaptation :/
