Kurt Wimmer Heads to Mars for 'Total Recall'

Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet) has been tapped to write Columbia's new version of Total Recall. The original (directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger), based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," follows a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air. The studio is keeping mum on the new take, simply calling a "contemporized adaptation."

A 'contemptorized version' of a decades old story filmed in the nineties and set years in the future? Hands up if you can spell bollocks.

THANK GOD, Arnold will not be in this! just,...thank you GOD!!!! i really like BOTH Equilibrium and Ultraviolet (yeah, THAT ULTRAVIOLOET...LOL) so i'm optimistic that Wimmer can do some good with this movie too!

Why not just make a different take on Philip K. Dick's short story? I read ton of his stuff last symester for college and "We Can Remember..." was among the stack. There's plenty of room and ideas to expand upon, but doing a remake specifically of Total Recall is kind of rediculous. Plus, It's ONLY A 90'S FILM! Jesus. @djblack: Dude, Total Recall is considered by many to be a sci-fi masterpiece.

I'm pretty sure we can expect news of Cube, Dark City, and Fifth Element remakes before the year is up.

TheDeadMay.., i'm not saying it's not a fav for many folks, it just did NOTHING for me. the only part i remember is when (a beautiful) Sharon Stone & Arnold fight and he shoots her.

Out of all the remakes invading tinseltown this one I find interesting. The original "TR" was somewhat groundbreaking w/ the special effects 'n all. Imagine how real this film can come across now almost 20yrs later. Wow! it's actually been that long. Go figure.. A perect fit for me to replace the "governator" in the male lead would be Thomas Jane. The dude from "Deep Blue Sea" & the 1st. "Punisher" The new female lead could be the blonde chick from Transformers, she has pretty eyes like Sharon Stone. Any buyers?.....

Rampage, EXCELLENT suggestions for the cast! i 2nd that! the blonde (Australian i think) would be EXCELLENT and i love Jane in just about anything he does. he's an awesome action AND dramatic actor! good call!

Quick everyone, lets pool our money together and do a remake of the last 4 SAW films, The Grudge remakes, and Slumdog Millionaire while we are at it. I know it won best picture and isn't a horror movie. Who cares? Lets remake it anyways. REMAKE REMAKE REMAKE. Fuck it, I officially am completely boycotting ALL non-original movies made in North America. They've fucking crossed the line and ran completely out of ingenuity and creativity. Indie cinema and Asia/European horror ONLY until they stop. Who is with me? PS - Total Recall is sci-fi, NOT horror. You going to cover both now? Its not even overlap.....it is SCIENCE FICTION. In that case, where is the official Bloody-disgusting Star Trek review? How many skulls out of 5 does JJ get for his reboot-remake-rehash-reinventing?

TOTAL RECALL is WAY to new still. I'm sure the CGI for this will be impressive, but any movie made after 1985 should be off limits for atleast another 5 years.

Who is going to play Arnold's roll? I would laugh it is the Rock. If it isn't broke don't fix it. This movie doesn't need a remake.
