We got a little scoop to get you through another slow weekend. Word has come into Bloody-Disgusting that Sony Screen Gems has officially started development on Quarantine 2, the sequel to the box office success from last October that grossed over 30m here in the States. The first film was a nearly shot-for-shot remake of the Spanish horror film [REC] (arriving on DVD this July from Sony), while we're being told that Screen Gems is looking for a totally original pitch for the sequel. Filmax is in post-production on their own sequel to [REC] that's slated for release later this year in Spain.
I personally like quarantine for the simple fact it was a shot for shot remake in ENGLISH because I REC was petty fast moving camera and trying to remember what I learned in Spanish class or reading subs might ruin it because I might miss something

Quarantine was great,i hope they can do it again.what would be awesome is that rec 2 and Quarantine 2 will take differant paths,that sound interesting i just hope that Quarantine 2 is not direct to dvd.
I loved the original and the shot-for-shot remake equally (no, boys and girls, I will not go into the fake I-hate-it-because-it's-a-remake debate). Maybe they could incorporate the "Vantage Point" concept into the sequel, showing as many angles and viewpoints as possible... A "Blair Witch Project" with zombies, if you will!
yeah, i'm jazzed about QUAR 2 & REC 2 especially since they (hopefully, most likely) are 2 separate storylines!! i wouldn't mind a "traditional" camera style movie though. the hand held shaky cam thing has worn itself out. but i'm STILL up for these.
I saw REC at Fantasia. Haven't been that effing tense since I was a kid. The rest of the theatre as well.
I watched Quarantine on DVD and, like Cloverfield, the acting was horrendous. The recognizable 2 or 3 actors added to the pretentiousness of it all.
AND... I read in Fango that the Quarantine filmmakers don't even mention REC in their features/commentaries!

YES! Im really excited for this hah. I really liked Quarantine and REC. Wonder what route they'll take for the film. That would be cool if the movie came out in 2010!
Quarantine was not a shot-for-shot remake of [REC]. Had it been so then the only shortcoming of the remake would've been the acting. The director rewrote the screenplay rather than simply translating it from Spanish to English. They didn't bother to explain the reason why some people showed symptoms early and others didn't, the staging of some of the scenes and dialogue made the characters' choices seem less logical and I don't recall the whole "beat the zombie in the face with the camera lens" scene anywhere in the original film. The monster at the end wasn't nearly as scary as the one in the original either. [REC] was scary. Quarantine was loud, confusing and badly acted.
americangods and LordofDarkness are right. Quarantine sucked. Just another generic zombies-in-a-house movie. Seen it millions of times. Why make a sequel, when you can watch the thousand other movies that do the EXACT SAME THING?
Quarantine was OKAY... Definitely not as good as REC. In Quarantine, the monster in the end could barely be seen! One of the scariest moments in REC was when you see it staggering around and you see its face!
