Tony Scott CONFIRMS 'Alien' Remake/Prequel

Website Collider confirmed today with Tony Scott our exclusive breaking news that Carl Rinsch will be getting behind the camera for 20th Century Fox's reboot of the Alien franchise started back in '79 by Ridley Scott. It was also confirmed that the reboot is being pinned as a "prequel" (even though we all know damn well it's still a reboot). In the original, the terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, Aliens (my favorite film of all-time). Click here to talk about it.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dammit! Don't DO THIS!!! In my last comment on the previous BD article, didn't say please w/ extra sugar & sprinkles. WHY?!!!!!!

Why? Alien and Aliens are perfect and timeless. This just isn't needed. Neither is a Predator reboot, that movie still works as well. Make a REAL AvP movie based upon the video game: set in space and a three way dance between Aliens, Predators, and Colonial Marines. The concept should work if everyone involved isn't a total fucking hack, like the last two films. Why?????

How can you really have a true Alien movie without Sigourney Weaver? The greedy Hollywood execs who come up with rebooting and prequeling every great horror movie under the sun deserves to have a baby alien inserted inside their ribcage.

I think I could handle a origin story, but not a reboot/remake. Alien is my favorite movie of all time and by god hasn't this series been drug through the mud enough?

It's game over man! Game over! I can't believe The Scott brothers are pissing on their own achievements.

This is bull shit, the original alien was a classic and all there gonna do is fuck it up, why would they do this? I know why, for a cash grab cause some suposed horror movie fans that know a thing will go see it

Looking at that trailer reminds me hw awesome Alien is, like the score complimenting the shot of the spaceship fying by the planet!!

okay well I would like to take back my comment on DRAG ME TO HELL for a second I though Sam was trying to get into serious Saw 1 type horror but since it's suppose to be comedic I'll let it sldie but this is still a for sure no until I see a trailer and hear some casting

God damnit, it isn't a remake. It's a prequel. Reboot =/= Remake, folks. Seriously, the misinformation is going to stir up a lot of BS between fans, and people are going to develop a bias against the film before they see it, all because of this misconception that "reboot" and "remake" are synonymous, when they most certainly, and clearly, are NOT.

y not remake movies that can ACTUALLY benefit from a remake...like THE CAR, LASERBLAST, THE MANITOU....

If it is in fact going to be a prequel which normally wouldn't mean a reboot/remake/reimagine, I'm all in for it, whether it's like the new Star Trek or not. The concept would justify the absense of Ripley of which it would be ridiculous to have back to begin with if you consider her age and would also back up Ridley's statement that has been repeated for years that he wanted to explore the alien home world. Since no one wants a remake and it would be impossible to have Ripley back unless you want an old old lady fighting the aliens (and let's not forget that there is only the CLONE Ripley left), as a Alien fan I don't see why a fan wouldn't want a new one since a prequel is the best way to go.

Boycott.

This is sick. One of the greatest horror movies ever made, with one of the best taglines ever, and they're going to come in and fuck it up. It was bad enough that they messed with TCM, Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, Friday the 13th, and The Last House on the Left, but this one is unforgivable. Absolutely unforgivable.

i second that charliegirl. This is almost as sacreligious as trying to make another godfather or jaws movie (although if another jaws movie were made it would be safe to assume it would suck worse than Revenge). Just please... PLEASE don't let them remake dawn of the dead... OH WAIT. they already did. Fuck hollywood. If this "Alien" film is PG-13, we should all boycott fox no matter what good stuff they put out.

Reboot is just another term for "take their money and run!!!"

walkerdoug

Well, reboot is just restarting the series because it hit it's high point. To put it blunt, it jumped the shark. I'm glad to hear it's a prequel. A sequel would have been bad, remaking it would have been horrendous, but a prequel is o.k. It's not really rebooting the series. You wouldn't consider TCM:The Beginning a reboot would you. And that was a prequel. In that logic you would consider any prequel a reboot. Or how about the new underworld movie. That wasn't a reboot, just a prequel. So, as Big Bad Wolf has plainly said, "It isn't a remake." So quit bitching about this remake crap and reboot stuff. The series isn't starting over.

New underworld=sucked. TCM beginning=sucked. We are all more afraid that fox is only in it for the money and will ruin the franchise. If they pull a good movie out of their asses none of us will be complaining, we just hate to see a 30yr old franchise go FURTHER down the drain than it already is considering the classic status of the first two films.

A remake of "The Car"? Hmmm, that actually sounds kind of interesting....

Big Bad Wolf

All "reboot" means is "kick start to a dying/dead franchise." Let's face it, AvPR kiled the idea of an AvP franchise for at least a little while, and Resurrection isn't fondly remembered for being a quality film, so a prequel with RIDLEY-FUCKING-SCOTT shepherding the project is great news to me. I'm especially glad that they're returning to the concept of just one Alien on a ship. But seriously, get it right: a reboot does not mean a remake. The sooner everyone realizes that the better. It'd certainly be nice if the news sites we've come to rely on for this kind of information could at least make that distinction, so the masses are not as misinformed as they are starting to become at the moment.

Hmm could be good..could be bad...ill wait and judge when it comes out...has to be better than AVPR!

I haven't heard ANYONE mention the REAL reason ALIEN is a classic. H.R. GIGER!!! If it's a PREQUEL then have Giger design everything and it might be cool. So, one alien on a ship killing the crew is BORING...been there-done-that! But if they could turn that into the first 30 minutes and then have the two survivors return to Earth not knowing that the Alien was hiding in the ship...and have it going beserk on Earth for a couple of days and getting destroyed and then having the two survivors and military go back out and find the planet where these things originated, start a major battle, blow-up the planet and go back to Earth only to find that apparantly the one alien had implanted several people and Earth is swarming with them! You would then have a nod to ALIEN, ALIENS and then something totally new! I just made that up in the last 20 minutes and I think that something LIKE that would make a good, action-packed film. A remake-prequel-sequel!

Good, this needs a reboot. Ganna love seeing the Aliens back in action again.
