Foster care groups are in an uproar after seeing Warner Bros. Pictures' campaign for their forthcoming Orphan, which follows a family whom adopt the child from hell. What caused this stir-up was the line in the film's trailer (watch it beyond the break), "It must be hard to love an adopted child as much as your own." Since the ad campaign began this week adoptive parents and groups have barraged the film company Warner Brothers with complaints, saying the film taps into unfounded fears about adoption. Warner Bros. response, "They were right... Their complaints resonated with us." WB is moving "as quick as possible" to remove the offending line from the film's marketing materials. Check out ABC News for the full story.
Oh who gives a shit?! I'm so tired of there being a problem with everything, this PC shit disgusts me. This whole country needs to reach up inside it's big pussy and pull it's balls out.
Oh give me a break. This world is becoming so PC, I feel like I can't breathe sometimes. Go bungee jump off of a cliff, and just forget to attach the cord to yourself. Fuhkin wankers.
This has me fuming a bit... so the child (Esther) says it. Basically she's saying to her mother that she feels unloved because she's not her real daughter. It's a plot point to make her feel guilty. It's so taken out of context and ridiculous that anyone would get mad.
MrDisgusting, EXACTLY! When I first read this headline, I thought that it was referring to a narrator line in the trailer, but when I actually saw the child say it...I was like-WHAT THE FUCK? Surely if the child is FROM HELL then her words are to purposly taunt and to be of evil content? My my!
It is playing into those unfounded fears. Because, guess what? That's what horror DOES! It played into unfounded fears: of the dark, of mortality, of terrorism, of ghosts, of isolation, of helplessness. If it tapped into "founded" fears, no one would watch it.
I'm offended by all of this, why do they always act like hell is such a bad place? Its just insensitive to the residents of hell. People are so intolerant.
Seriously..Sure you may lose SOME box office (if foster parents are the complainers, would they REALLY see a film about killer orphans anyways?), but the WORST anyone can do to them is protest the film. Hell, it might even ATTRACT customers looking for the next taboo thing to do... The more people give in to this bullshit, the worse it will become. Did anyone hear about PETA getting pissed at a sporting event for having a chicken dance? I'm totally convinced people fucking LOOK for something to complain about...
This is sad. It seems like you can't say anything anymore without offending someone. Thes idiots need to get over themselves. It's a line in a movie for Christ's sake. Friggin pathetic.
Seriously people can say much worse things and get away with it. And if the child says it its different than the narrator does. It's just pathetic how people thing horror desensitized the lot of us. Is it to much to ask for for a little dose of reality? People die every day in isck and twisted manners and only a few people get into this type of frenzy. But if people who watch horror movies with similar plots than its inhuman and sick. The sickest thing possible is if Disney takes over the film industry. I think I'd just give up hope.
Wow can anyone say n e thing these days without offending someone? I mean daaaaamn!! get over it...its a horror movie! WB you should not apologize or n e thing u know why?! let them bitch and moan and more people will go see this movie! Just like the Da Vinci code..christian groups bashed it so it made everyone more interested in seeing it...So keep that line in the trailer and in the previews and people will bitch and moan and than it'll make more people want to see it..unless of course the movie sux than yes pull it so horror doesnt get another black eye like with the haunting of molly hartley..guh!
I'm glad i watched the trailer, the movie looks pretty decent, judging by the name, it sounded like a boring run of the mill PG-13 horror flick. As for the line, i agree it was completely taken out of context.
It is just a line in the movie and trailer, seriously, why can't people understand that. Horror is suppose to make people like they can't sleep at night sometimes. Horror fanatics live practically for this type of thing. For a child or anyone to say that I would still go see it because it is new and unexpected. And besides it is a movie, why is everyone always so offended because of a movie..I'm not goign to go into the whole First Amendment stuff because it has probably been overused so many times it isn't even funny anymore XD in yet i still laugh o . O
Really, this kind of publicity is good for the film. You can't buy press like it. Too bad the movie's release date is so far away as the controversy won't help it as much because people will forget. Hopefully, the line isn't edited out of the actual movie but I wouldn't count on that being the case.
The child is evil because it was adopted FROM HELL, not just because it was adopted. "Rosemary's Baby," "The Reaping," et al. prove that Satan's spawn can come naturally from your own womb as well . . . as long as you were raped.
This is ridiculous. Are they seriously going to cut out kills now because someone in real life got killed that way & it's offensive to SOMEONE?
"oh no, let's cut out the guy getting stabbed, because it happened in real life?"
I understand it MAY offend adoptive parents and/or children, but don't watch it.
