Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has finally announced the DVD release of [REC], which stars Manuela Velasco. DVD Active reports that the Spanish horror will be available to own on July 14, and should retail at around $24.96. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with a Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. English subtitles will also be provided, as well as an English 5.1 soundtrack. The only extra material will be a making of featurette.

From Executive Producers who brought you Quarantine, comes the movie that inspired the terror. A beautiful TV reporter and her cameraman are doing a routine interview at a local fire station when an emergency call comes in. Accompanying the firefighters to a nearby apartment, the news team begins recording the bloodcurdling screams coming from inside an elderly woman's unit. After authorities seal off the building to contain the threat, the news crew, firefighters and residents are trapped to face a lethal terror inside. With the camera running, nothing may survive but the film itself.

What a shocker, Sony's own website is quoted on the cover, shill feedback anyone?

That is a pretty wretched cover. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of photoshop could crank out something better than that. This is just further proof of how this movie was dicked over by Hollywood.

@_@ I very well may pop open CS4 and make a better copy of that myself. Perhaps I can get some work designing box-art if THAT'S considered acceptable xD Perhaps someone did it for free...

Thank Christ I have a region free dvd player and have already gotten my 2 disk special edition of REC from overseas. I don't mean to gloat; but the extra dvd expense was worth it for me even before I saw that shitty ass cover. What a slap in the face to an amazing movie.

Americans just LOVE to screw up these kinds of things. Morons. I guess they thought the original pictures wouldn't be attention grabbing, so they made their cover look almost EXACTLY like the Quarantine cover. Did I mention they're morons?

This is ONLY coming out on DVD in the States NOW!?! Holy hell man. Been a while since we've gotten a DVD in Canada well before the States. How the hell did that happen? Oh, and the cover art is crap too. Wretched.

ehh, it's ok. Not as good as my region2 DVD. 'The Movie That Inspired Quarantine' rofl. I think this movie did a little more than inspire Quarantine.

Cracks me up when websites are getting quoted on boxart...even when BD gets quoted. No offense, but they are not recognized professional critics. U know a movie is bad when the quote comes from IMDB...means it could be from any one of us, LMAO. The art here is bad, but obviously trying to cash in on Quarantine. The canadian box is simple and fine. And Mack_Twitch, we usually get foreign flicks before the States.
