'Creature from the Black Lagoon' Loses Eisner

Bloody-Disgusting learned this afternoon that Breck Eisner - who is currently hard at work on Overture Films' remake of The Crazies - will in fact not be directing The Creature from the Black Lagoon remake for Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment. He was rumored to be exiting the project back in December, but it was quickly shot down. We have confirmed with various sources that it is now official and that Uni and Strike are now actively hunting a new director. As of right now the re-imagining is being penned and produced by Gary Ross, whose father wrote the original. In Creature, a group of scientists discover and capture the prehistoric GillMan while searching for fossils along the Amazon River. It breaks free and kidnaps one of the scientists' fiancee with whom it has fallen in love.

Ahh, another pointless remake! Oh wait, this is what us real horror fans want, right? Haha, yeah sure. Why don't they just rewrite the bible while they're at it, that's looking a little old as well...

Maybe they can get John Carpenter back now, yes?

I'm not a fan of the ridiculous amount of remakes coming out of studios these days but I honestly feel there is some merit in remaking the classic monster movies. They pioneered the way for a lot of what we now get to see on screen so I don't see the harm in fully fleshing them out with today's technology. I'd rather see a remake of Creature or Wolfman than I would another generic Friday the 13th remake.

No more remakes!

I won't be surprised if this project never goes. The script is complete crap and the writer refuses to revise. Too bad - would be fun to see an updated Creature in a good movie.

Just make it already, DAMN! Of ALL the classis movie monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Phantom of the freakin' Opera!), the Creature has been shown the least amount of love! What has he been in since "The Creature Walks Among Us"? 5-minutes of "Monster Squad"?! 60 years and just a cameo in one movie?! Are you fuckin' kidding me?!!!

I'm not for all these remakes either. But the CFBL has not to my knowledge ever been remade - and it needs to be. Remember guys that John Carpenter's The Thing was a much needed remake of an old black and white movie.

to TheDeadMayTasteBad; the Gill Man had one other cameo - Mad Monster Party. Pull it up on Amazon and check it out - good stuff. And I agree that the Creature deserves more respect than he's been given.

i agree with the few other people on here that ya this does need a remake.

No movie "needs a remake". But if one's inevitable at least hire some talent. Carpenter's story idea from years back was pretty cool. Carpenter or Joe Dante would be the best guys for the job.
