The 'Ghostbusters' Heading to a Different Dimension?

Comedian-turned-actor Dan Aykroyd has been pretty accessible as of late and even better is his inability to keep the goods under wraps. Today a new interview with Aykroyd reveals a little more of the plot points for Columbia Pictures' forthcoming Ghostbusters 3, the highly anticipated sequel that is said to be shooting this winter with returning cast Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver. Read on for the skinny.

From The Guardian:

"And now for the supernatural bit: after coming together for the game, all the players have stated their intentions to go back, and a script is being written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, writers on the US Office. According to reports the original cast will act as mentors, handing the company over to a new generation, likely to be from the Seth Rogen and Steve Carell class of actors who are filling up just the same space in Hollywood as Aykroyd and Murray once did. "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her," says Aykroyd. "There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension." "

Talk about it below!

Headline had me expecting a 3d announcement. This is one of the few franchises I feel could benefit from a Real-D experience.

I hope they still make the ghosts at least look similar. Not completely change the look with CG. =(

Whaaaat? Seth Rogan would be funny in it. That is interesting, I mean the originals are alittle longer but should still kick some ass. Rick Moranis should be in charge of the probes. Its gonna be good nomatter what so Im happy.

Sounds like they're not going to fuck with it too much. They've got good writers and are picking from the right realm of actors. Stoked.

You just had to post The EXTREME Ghostbusters didn't you? hahaa

Aykroyd's original GB idea had the guys traveling across the galaxy and dimension-hopping, but that was always too expensive to transfer to the screen. Now it looks like they'll finally be able to bring some of those long-forgotten plot points to life.

I feel like I've read that quote months ago? Maybe not. This can't be bad.

Been waiting forever for this movie to happen and now that it is I'm dreading which popular for the next 5 minutes rapper or pop star will fuck up the theme song this time. Ray Parker Jr. must still be able to stand up, at least trot him out for a duet or something!

this may sound sexist but i hate it when they try to add woman in movies a female leader for the new ghostbusters? come on! that's so not cool. remember when they made the terminatrix for T3? not scary, and doesn't fit with the movie.

Im so fucking happy about this. I cant believe they are finally making a 3rd ghostbusters. This will be one of the best sequels ever made in my eyes. This amazing franchise deserves a 3rd movie if not a new franchise. Long live the ghostbusters.

I would love to see Danny Mcbride and Craig Robinson.

This sounds terrible. Holy crap is that bad. The game will be amazing, but these movie ideas are terrible, and I'm amazed some of you are actually in favor of them. Danny McBride as a Ghostbuster? Why? Cuz he was in Tropic Thunder? How does he belong in Ghostbusters? Seth Rogen? These actors are popular currently, but they aren't good enough to wear proton packs.

I'm liking the whole dimension crossing aspect. Would love to see them go to Hell as that has been mentioned as a plot point before.

AmazingSpiderMan: Come on, just as Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd were on top of their comedy game in the 80's, all the people involved with Appatow productions are comedy gold now. I personally cannot think of many other people to fit the comedy role so well, so I say bring on Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Jason Seigel, and just to be different Will Arnett.

This sounds like the old Ghostbusters 3 script that had the old team crossing into another dimension and getting trapped there while a new team is assembled and equipped to get them out. I guess they're supposed to be stuck in Hell and it turns out that hell looks an awful lot like New Jersey. The old script sounded pretty funny. Smacks of Giant Sized X-Men #1 and I'm totally fine with that. To whomever cited Craig Robinson and Danny McBride for cast members... you are so, so right. Someone make that happen now.
