Some pretty huge news comes out of Cannes as Vivendi Entertainment (VE) has acquired the US home video, digital and mobile rights to Palisades Tartan’s films, marking the first time the library will be available digitally to US audiences! In addition, there's a plan to expand upon the Asia Extreme brand, read on for the skinny.

The Palisades Tartan catalog is comprised of two unique labels: the widely popular Asia Extreme brand and an edgy slate of Art House films from world-renowned directors. Asia Extreme highlights the most daring and twisted horror, thriller and action films from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and all of Asia, including Park Chanwook’s 2004 Cannes Grand Jury Prize Winner OLDBOY and SHUTTER (THE ORIGINAL). The Palisades Tartan International Art House collection boasts Michael Winterbottom’s sexually charged and critically acclaimed film 9 SONGS and Academy Award -winning director Andrea Arnold’s RED ROAD. Most recently Palisades Tartan released Carlos Reygadas’ Independent Spirit Award-nominated film, SILENT LIGHT.

“The Palisades Tartan catalog features an incredible slate of cutting-edge and innovative feature films,” commented Tom O’Malley, Vivendi Entertainment president. “We are thrilled to be in business with them, as we have admired this library for a very long time.”

Vin Roberti, chairman of Palisades Tartan remarked, “Since acquiring the Tartan catalogue in 2008, we have entertained a number of significant offers for the right to distribute our product. Vivendi Entertainment not only provides a strong financial partner but an incredibly talented management team. We feel strongly that this team has the tools and expertise to market our extraordinary catalogue to its fullest potential for the benefit of our licensors and shareholders.

The deal was negotiated by Yolanda Macias, SVP of Business and Development at Vivendi Entertainment and Kevin Burns, CEO of Palisades Tartan.
