Lionsgate HOme Entertainment made two announcements this morning, one of which made me jump out of my seat. LGF has slated Roman Polanski's incredibly underrated The Ninth Gate for high-def Blu-ray release on August 11th! Starring Johnny Depp, this was one of those films I remember having to hunt down to see as "religious" theater chains refused to show it. Also arriving on the same day is See No Evil, the slasher film starring WWE's Kane. Read on for details.
The Ninth Gate makes its long-awaited debut on Blu-ray Disc from Lionsgate. Directed by Academy Award® winner Roman Polanski (The Pianist, 2002), the film stars three-time Academy Award® nominee Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Finding Neverland, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) as Dean Corso, an unscrupulous rare-book dealer who is hired to locate the last remaining copies of a demonic manuscript with the power to summon the Devil. Corso must overcome both physical and supernatural obstacles as he finds himself embroiled in a deadly conspiracy and, ultimately, a confrontation with the devil incarnate. The Blu-ray Disc features a newly remastered 1080P High Definition Widescreen presentation of the film and 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio as well as bonus materials that include audio commentary by Polanski, a "making-of" featurette, storyboard selections and a gallery of satanic drawings.
The action-packed film See No Evil makes its Blu-ray Disc debut this August. Directed by award-winning music video director Gregory Dark (Britney Spears, Ice Cube, Outkast) and starring WWE Superstar Kane (TV's "WWE Judgment Day,"), See No Evil is a terrifying tale about a group of friends who are stalked by a serial killer. The Blu-ray Disc features a newly remastered 1080P High Definition Widescreen version of the film with 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio, as well as exciting bonus features that include audio commentaries, two featurettes and storyboard-to-film comparisons.
Equipped with a rusty steel plate screwed into his skull and razor-sharp fingernails that pluck out his victims' eyes, reclusive psychopath Jacob Goodnight is holed up in the long-abandoned and rotting Blackwell Hotel, alone with his nightmares until eight petty criminals show up for community service duty along with the cop who put a bullet in Jacob's head four years ago. When one of their own is kidnapped by the killer and with her fate uncertain, the remaining lawbreakers must fight this indestructible force of nature who has a violent score to settle.
Pricing: Blu-ray Disc $19.99
See No Evil is a huuuuge guilty pleasure of mine. It's dumb as shit but it's just fun enough that I will watch it whenever I come across it on tv. Can't wait to see it in glorious blu-ray.
That see no evil is a crap movie but i agree with you, SukMyBoomStik." I love making fun of the movie. But no way in hell will i get that on dvd- and bluray of all of the things!
