Oliver Stone Looking to Tell the Tale of 'Helter Skelter'?

Fans of Natural Born Killers are about to go into a frenzy as Variety is reporting that the great Oliver Stone is said to be in talks with Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecuting attorney on the Manson case, to put the book Helter Skelter onto the bigscreen. August marks the grim 40th anniversary of the murder of actress Sharon Tate, and four others at the hands of Manson Family cult members. This terrible event closed the 1960's in a full circle -- a decade that had begun with such promise. It ended in assassinations, riots, upheaval and finally mass murder in Hollywood. So far nobody has had the bad taste to make a feature movie about the Manson slayings. Television offered up two films on the killings -- one back in 1970s, and another in 2004.

This is absolutely fantastic news. Stone is the only person that I could see doing this film any justice. Hopefully, he will be back in his NBK mode when he makes this. I cannot wait for this.

I doubt even Oliver Stone will top Jim Van Bebber's The Manson Family for its sheer headfuck psychedelic gruesome imagery. Very few films actually batter my head like that...

Kudos to you "Horror Writer". That to me is the ultimate Manson film.

Gotta agree with Horror Writer and Horror Guy, Van Bebber's film is the perfect Manson film and I don't see how anything new or better can be done.

I'm with EGG MAN on this: Oliver Stone could easily get the Ppsychadelic-mind-fuck down pat. If you don't think so watch 'Natural Born Killers' again. I'm not trying to take away anything from Van Bebber's version, but I think Stone could make a great film about Manson.

I have to agree with Horror Writer Manson Family is much better then Helter Skelter, Vincent is a dick but i'll see this film i'm sure Oliver Stone will do a good job makeing this film.

If anyone can bring this to the screen properly its Stone.

I'm hoping Stone does this. It's going to be hard to be Jim Van Bebber's "The Manson Family". That movie was just brutal. I'm hoping to see this on the big screens soon!

Truth- The Manson Family is an AMAZING film. BUT it isn't about Stone one upping an already wonderful movie. I think Stone will be able to create a new perspective for us, and I'm quite happy to see his take.

I could see Oliver Stone making a great Manson film. I've been dying for a really good Manson film and i hope it tells a lot of the stuff that wasn't already in the previous Manson films. I don't think it needs to be like Natural Born Killers or The Manson Family at all because it would be too over the top and take away from the realism of it like The Manson Family did. I hope they pick a good choice as Charlie and tell a good story while keeping grounded in reality.

After reading the article, I was thinking to myself "Nobody has had the bad taste to make a feature movie about the Manson slayings"? Tsk, tsk. Call Van Bebber nobody in that case. Great to see some love (& acknowledgment) for his film here. I'm definitely not opposed to seeing Stone take the book on, it's right up his alley & I can imagine it being a nice blend of Helter Skelter & The Manson Family. Think of the trial aspects from JFK, add the hallucinatory psychosis from NBK, stir in extra blood, and boom. Cinema Joy right there :)

I'd definitely watch this.. Helter Skelter is on of my favorite books. The previous movies were pretty decent, especially the latest.
