Winter Confirms 'Gate' Directing Duties, Hopes to Have Stephen Dorff Return!

Just got word from one of B-D's own who attended a very special midnight screening of Freaked at the New Beverly in Los Angeles where actor-turned-director Alex Winter was on hand and confirmed that he will in fact be directing a 3-D reboot of The Gate and that the film is currently in pre-production. "I can't wait to hurl shit at the audience in 3-D!," he exclaimed. But the real news came later where Winter, the star of The Lost Boys and the Bill and Ted movies, revealed that he hopes to have Stephen Dorff play the father in the updated version. In the original Dorff played one of three young children who accidentally release a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from a hole in a suburban backyard..

as long as the demons arent terrible cgi, this will be interesting, i liked the original, but the sequel The Gate II was terrrrrible.

I watch the original this morning. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid!

I love the original, and I think I am one of the few who actually liked Gate II, as well. Sure, it was cheesy and had little to do with the original, but Louis Tripp was great, and there were some gut-bustingly funny scenes: the minion swinging on the canary perch; Moe's reaction when the money turns into a pile of sh*t. It was much more bad-good than good-good, but I have enjoyed watching it a couple of times. Anyway, a reboot could be great because this, like Night of the Demons, is a movie where the remake has the potential to outshine the original. Improved technology, and bigger budget, a better script, and better actors could really make for a great flick. Let's hope the 3D is not just a gimmick, though. The director's comments make me a little uncomfortable about the use of 3D in this.

Holy shit! This is the greatest news I've heard in years! Winter is genius and The Gate could really show off his talents as a director. Wow. Just. Wow.

I treasure the original. I wish they're release the widescreen version of the film on DVD.

Pretty much everything about this report is awesome. The one thing I was afraid of is that they would use shite cgi on the remake but if winter directs the costumes in freaked were sick! ..and dorff .. Awesome

I can't wait for this remake, I really hope that people go out and see it. I hope we get to see teasers soon. Alex Winter has worked very hard to prove himself otherwise. Since this is one of his "bigger" shots at directing such a classic widely known 80s flick, I hope it gets a big opening. The 3D idea is even more awesome! I hope The Dorff returns too. Bill S. Preston,Esq. would be so proud!
