Back in April Twitch Film broke the news on Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo's next feature film, Livid, a dark fairy tale that turns on three young men who decide to rob an elderly woman's house in the Irish heathlands. For those of you who enjoyed the massive amounts of gore that drenched the screen in Inside, don't expect the blood to flow as the pic looks likely to pull back on the physical violence. What do you guys think about this? Are you still excited? You can read all about in beyond the break.

Click here for a longer synopsis and more details...

Paris-based La Fabrique de Films will produce "Livid," the next film from Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo ("Inside"). Marking the duo's English-language debut, "Livid" is skedded for a September shoot in Ireland.

Headed by Verane Frediani and Franck Ribiere, La Fabrique has also taken Gallic distribution rights. Overlook Entertainment, Fabrique's foreign sales agent, will handle international sales. Frediani and Ribiere will produce.

Billed as a "dark romantic fairy tale," "Livid" turns on three young men who decide to rob an elderly woman's house in the Irish heathlands.

Maury and Bustillo have completed the screenplay. "Inside" DP Laurent Bares will repeat as cinematographer.

Budgeted at $8.5 million, "Livid" continues Fabrique's line in competitively priced, low-budget genre films. Pic also looks set to be structured as a France-Ireland co-production. "Livid" will be ready for delivery in spring 2010.

Cannes 2007 Critics' Week player "Inside," also produced by La Fabrique, proved one of this decade's most notable genre debuts, selling to the Weinstein Co. for the U.S. and U.K. and to over 40 countries. Some auds found it stomach-churning, however. "Livid" looks likely to pull back on the physical violence.

At Cannes, Overlook will screen a promo reel of Frank Richards' "The Pack." The French-language ghoul tale toplines Emilie Duquenne ("Rosetta"), Benjamin Biolay ("Stella") and this year's Cesar winner actress Yolande Moreau ("Seraphine").

I dont understand why they would cut back on the gore when "Inside" was so awesome...This is a straight to dvd movie in the states either way so Bring on the GORE and stop Pansying it up

Meh I don't mind they didn't say there will be no violence just not as much, it's all good and I'm just very excited about the fact that this is going to be filmed in Ireland hope they film somewhere near where I live!!!

I think it'll still be great. Yeah, the gore is part of why "Inside" worked, but really, it only supplemented the nail-biting suspense and actual scariness, the likes of which have been compared to HALLOWEEN.

i think BOTH points here are spot on. Feleron is right, it will be a DVD release here in the states (bring on the gore!) but Jimmy&Wolf are right too in that INSIDE had amazing suspense and there will STILL be violence just not as much. it would be a bit hard to top the gore in INSIDE unless it was just literally pouring GALLONS of BLOOD on EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE in EVERY SCENE! lol! if they can re-create the tension and atmospheric dread that permeated INSIDE in LIVID....i'm in! :)

plenty 'o gore does not equal a good horror movie.

Yeah I was going to say, while Im not excited about super natural stuff, you dont need tons of gore to have an awesome movie. Inside was a fantastic movie with boat loads of gore but within context to the story, so it was justified. This still could be a decent movie.

You fuckers are annoying. If there's a lot of gore you say that all it has going for it is the gore. If there isn't any then you want it. A film is about the STORY not whether it has gore or not. I swear it's embarrassing being a horror fan and having to keep the company of the likes of most of you. It seems that you guys aren't into film as you are just a bunch of functioning retards that like to see people die on screen. Grow up.

what made Inside so great and amazing was the lines crossed in Inside and the brutality and gore. And maybe it's because I just started The Orphanage, but this sounds like something good for Guillermo del Toro to get behind in some fashion too. He is the master of fairy tales.

This might be good, and as long as it has a good story it doesn't need buckets of gore. And for a second film, you don't want to do the same thing over again.

I would agree that gore does not make a horror movie great. (See Carpenter's Halloween). INSIDE had gore, but a good story/suspense that made it a great film. LIVID could be great without it being gory. I'll wait for the trailer and see if it looks good.

Each film should have the amount of gore the story asks for. Well, this might not be the case for most US movies because of the rating issue, but this is not the case here since the "A l'interieur" directors were not forced to turn down the gore by the produstion company. So it seems they just decided to make a differnet kind of film, which I think is quite smart cause they should not keep repeating themselves especially given the succes their first film had.

Ill still see it. However it would be nice if it was over the top also.

Maybe cutting down the gore will give them a chance to work on an actual story unlike INSIDE. In turn, maybe that will make it a decent film instead of an overhyped pile of shit with gore that looks like it was made by 15 year old fanboys. Christ, I hate INSIDE. I know I'm the minority...

I dont even care about violence in horror films, I just want the film to be terrifying and to tell a great story. Drag Me To Hell is pg 13 and I dont think Ive ever been so excited to see a horror film...that wasnt called inside ha

They'll cut back the violence because they assume anyone who sees it will run out and commit brutal acts of craziness. They haven't figured out yet that crazy people do crazy things. Normal people watch the films, enjoy the ride, reflect on the insanity of it, and move onto regular lives of eating Lean Cuisine and taking their kids to Soccer practice. I've watched a lot of pornos, I never show up at a girls house with pizza and no underwear saying "I got extra sausage for you". Maybe I still can distinguish between reality and fictitious entertainment. The studio execs can't apparently. And are threatened by extreme ideologies and imagery that might fracture their tiny egg shell minds.

If the violence is merited use it, if it isn't adding to the story line, who the hell cares. I trust these film makers will do this story justice gore or no gore.

I love inside its the most amazing film. Just as long as we get a tad of gore, and an awesome premise I'll be down. Look at Donkey Punch that showed no gore at all maybe one scene thats all. And that flick was amazing. I love movies that insult the mind.

Drayke

I'm curious as to why they're cuttting down on the violence. I can't imagine it's an issue of censorship under the circumstances, so I'm left to assume they're doing it with the film's best interest in mind. Depending of the film, too much violence can overshadow the story, characters, or tone of the film, so perhaps they're simply trying to avoid that. Inside was a special case in that the film was meant to be a fairly straight-forward splatterfest cranked up to the extreme. That might not be what they're trying to achieve with Livid.

Drayke

Oh also I meant to say, Rollstuhlwolf, that I totally get your point but I doubt that's the issue here. The French aren't nearly as uptight about this stuff as Americans (as a generalization.) There's not much in the way of censorship there compared to what we have.

Any of you see bug? that literally f*cked up my mind. Not alot of gore either, but the story was cool. dialogue was awesome. anyway, Livid? Fairytale? Sounds frickin out of this world.

I think taht this could deliver. Inside was great but not because of the gore. It had a good storyline. If you think a movie with blood gushing every three minutes is a good horror movie, then you have no taste. I wanna see the trailer for this. It sounds original. I hope that this is not a straight-to-dvd flick, because I am tired of good original horror movies being pushed out the theaters for those cheesy remakes.

this will be good regardless. these 2 have solid talent and I cant wait to see what they do with Livid

I'm excited for this. It better be devastating and memorable like "inside"... I can live without a gore factor.
