Not to be confused with Jekyll, the Keanu Reeves starrer announced last week, Abel Ferrara is taking another walk on the wild side with a re-imagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," which will be contemporized and titled Jekyll and Hyde. Forest Whitaker (Repossession Mambo) and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson (for real?) are attached to play the lead roles in the classic tale about a doctor who invents a potion that unleashes his violent alter ego. "The combination of such formidable talent in front of and behind the camera will turn this wonderful gothic story into a modern classic for a whole new generation," said Producer Luc Roeg. Independent is handling international sales on the project, which will begin lensing in late summer.

I want to like the idea cause I love Forest Whitaker, but the thought of 50 cent being in the same movie, not to mention its the 3rd version of the material on the horizon . . .I mean, given 50's acting range, he'd have to be Jekyll for the movie to work at all. BUt I'm sure that's not how they;ll do it. This is a terrible idea.
i heard something once before about them making the broadway musical "jekyll and hyde" into a movie. i'd much rather see that than this shit, OR keaunu reeves' for that matter
THis has to be the worst news EVER! 1st keanu reeves as WOH Jekyll..now Fitty Cent?next gary coleman will be in a Jekyl and Hyde remake with the olsen twins... well at least we'll see if the recent 50 cent movie trends continue..will the 10th bullet kill him in this one too...ull have to rent the dvd to find out..if you can find it!
Agree with Krug09 totally, his career died in 2004, around the same time he got a chanted off stage at Reading Festival and then his videogame was slated as one of the worst PS2 releases ever. Attaching him to any movie will kill it - if this isn't a joke it's a horrible, horrible idea...
Oh god, just like Rocky Horror remake, have to fuck up the classsic formula just to cash in with modern pop culture! Whitaker, I trust, actually. Hell, just have Whitaker play both Jekyll and Hyde parts(he'd do a HELL of a job!!). 50 Cent, WTF? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. H to the Y to the D to the E!

I'm guessing this is going to be the story of a poor downtrodden soul who just wants to be a rapper, then lo and behold, takes a magic potion and becomes an obnoxious 'rapstar'.
What more can they offer us? We know we'll get a badass psychological thriller with Keanu, and the classic more monster movie with Del Toror. We don't need Dr. Jekyll and Gansta Hyde.
First 50 Cent is a tool. Secondly, a "modern classic for a whole new generation" basically means they are going to try to hip the story up, which typically leads to disaster. A hip hop jeckyll and hyde, just what the world needs.
I remember back in the day when Horror movies would come out and Horror fans would just be happy that their genre was being released in theaters (no matter how bad or good they looked or sounded). Now it seems that every one has something (bad) to say about every horror movie announced. What happened to the horror fan that saw everything and didn't judge a movie because who was in it or what it was about until they saw it? I know that since the late 90's great/good horror movies have been scarce but come on people. Just be grateful that Horror is still being made. Who cares if you like the actor/s or not, if they are remakes, ghetto interpretations or even a movie with a plot that has been done millions of times. I’m not saying that this movie sounds remotely interesting, but if it looks even ok, I’ll see it.
What pisses me off is that everyone wants to reimagine the story with their own twists rather than give us a faithful adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's original classic. I would very much prefer that.
