‘Deadgirl’ Gets Special Theatrical Run in July
As usual, the news that hit the web the other day was not only inaccurate, but wasn’t even confirmed. What we learned exclusively this morning is that Dark Sky Films is planning something special for their forthcoming release of Deadgirl, which premiered last September at the Toronto International Film Festival’s “Midnight Madness.” Directed by Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel from a screenplay by horror fav Trent Haaga, Dark Sky will be putting the film in theaters July 24th as part of a “non-traditional event.” What does that mean exactly? Watch this spot for more soon. Deadgirl is a horror/thriller about two teenagers who make a shocking discovery that not only threatens their friendship but also their lives. In a forgotten room of an abandoned asylum, they find a beautiful woman tied to a bed, and soon come to realize she is anything but dead.

When nurse Julia finds herself trapped inside the home of her dementia patient, she begins to suspect things are not what they seem; something demonic is seeping through the cracks of this old home. Trapped and with nowhere to turn, Julia soon finds herself in battle to rid the house of this evil before it is too late.

“This film depicts the most harrowing 90 minutes of our protagonist’s life, and I felt that the most visceral way to really feel this was to do a single-shot film,” O’Brien previously teased. “We are with her every step and misstep she takes – through the unraveling of the mystery to the horror of her discovery. It’s a fun, twisty roller-coaster ride that puts a new spin on exorcisms.”
Bury the Devil is the first installment in a planned trilogy. The prequel, Bury the Devil: Origin, is already in development with O’Brien returning to the helm.
O’Brien produces along with Philip Kalin-Hajdu (The Sacrifice Game) and Benoit Beaulieu (Turbo Kid).
