'Martyrs' Now on DVD, Write Your Own Review and BEWARE

A quick note to all of those looking to check out Pascal Laugier's infamous Martyrs when it arrives on DVD today. DO NOT pick it up from Blockbuster Video or Wal-Mart and the odds are they'll be carrying the "edited" version of the film as they did with Inside last April. BOO to censorship. After you check it out, check back here and write your own review to tell all of Bloody-Disgusting what YOU thought of the movie. Your review will show up on the front page of the site on the top right corner in the User Review box for all to see.

Umm, Wal-Mart did NOT carry an edited version of INSIDE. I bought mine from there (it's the only place to buy movies around me). But they eventually did stop carrying it. So I'm planning on buying MARTYRS from them tomorrow. Blockbuster will probably carry an edited version though.

Got mine from amazon a day early! just finished watching it and I must say that I can't get certain images out of my head. This movie is disturbing and extreme and you have no idea where it's headed. It's not as "entertaining" as Inside but you just cant believe your watching this story play out in front of your eye's. As good as this movie is, like the original Last house on the left, I don't think I will be watching it over and over again. Got to be in just the right mood to watch it again.

Wal-Mart did have the unrated version of Inside until they pulled it from the shelves. Martyrs is a masterpiece. Can't wait to pick it up.

Got My Inside from wal-mart and it was unrated, at least the box says it was. But, I may purchase martrys from a different location just to be on the safe side. I do plan on picking up Laid to rest there . They have it fairly cheap(10 bucks!) and it says unrated.

Got Martyrs a month ago at WalMart (Canada) for $12. Excellent flick, but you have to be able to switch gears as the film keeps throwing new things at you. Pretty graphic, and the torture stuff does go on a bit long, but at least it has a point to the movie as a whole. Excellent flick, but hard to recommend unless you really know your audience.

Walmart did not sell the edited version of Inside. I've seen both the blockbuster version and the copy I bought from Walmart, it definitely was not edited. I'm not sure if I want to buy this movie though. I bought Inside and never had a desire to watch it again and this one is supposed to be more graphic. But I probably won't get it through Netflix for over a month so its a toss up.

I've heard so SO much about this movie. I can't wait to determine my own opinion about it. :)

I loved the first 1/2 of this movie, really in your face, and creepy. The latter part wasn't as enjoyable IMHO.

Very good movie (saw it a couple of months ago ;0), the French rule the market at shocking horror. Not quite as creepy as Inside, but truley disturbing none the less. As somoeone already stated, its not the type of film you could watch repeatedly and it will stay with you for a LONG time. Will be buying it for the collection.

I went to Wal-Mart to see what they were selling there. My local Wal-Mart was selling an R-Rated copy of Martyrs for $15. From what I could see, it was the only version they offered. This copy also did not have the dead girl under the bathtub under the slipcover. Everyone BEWARE, THERE IS AN R-RATED VERSION OUT THERE. Make sure when you are buying Martyrs that it says UNRATED on the cover. I went to my local electronics store and they offered the UNRATED version, so I finally own a copy of one of the best movies ever. Just wanted to let everyone here to know, there is a shitty version out there.

Yeah, I went to Wal-Mart and it was an R-Rated version. Guess I'll go to the Best Buy an hour from me when I go see Earth this weekend and buy it. I'm excited to see this movie but also nervous. I've heard very mixed things. With INSIDE I heard nothing but fantastic things. Even reviews from professional critics were great. MARTYRS has people split down the middle. I loved INSIDE, and am hoping for something great from this. Though drawn-out torture scenes can get really tiring.

Don't watch this film thinking about Inside, trust me, it's NOTHING like Inside. In my opinion, the drawn out torture scenes pay off big time when the purpose is revealed. Just watch this movie, its fantastic.

i got a copy online about a month ago and i didn't LOVE it like most folks. i LOVE the first half of the movie. all the LUCIE focused stuff, but then when it hits the torture part i was out. i DO recommend it. it's worth watching, definitely. and i must say Mylène Jampanoï (LUCIE) is effing GORGEOUS (actually BOTH girls are sexy as hell and AWESOME ACTRESSES). for anyone who liked this movie and how it was directed (it WAS directed quite well) we now have a glimmer of hope that the HELLRAISER remake (from this director Pascal) will be awesome! parts of (the 2nd half) MARTYRS reminded me of HELLRAISER.

First half of the movie? Interesting. I figured out what the deal was pretty early on. The torture porn second act? Not so much. This flick was highly overrated, and please spare me the "oh, you're not sophisticated enough to appreciate real horror" spiel. Saw it once, and that was more than enough.

Yeah Walmart carried the edited version, and given only 2 minutes were cut, i accepted it. I wanted to see it...Whatever 2 minutes in or out it was still really good

yeah i went to walmart at like 2 am and was desperate to see it so i bought the R rated version =( I NEED the unrated. does anyone know how much was cut and if its much different?

i bought mine at Wal-Mart how do i know if i have the edited version?!

nevermind, i just looked at my dvd box cover and it does not say UNRATED on it, so i check Amazon.com and they offer the UNRATED version there. honestly, i didn't think the movie was all that great. the first 1/2 kept my interest, but then the later part with fade outs every 3-5 minutes really got to me. so, if the Unrated version only has 2 extra minutes then i'm just gonna stick to my R-rated version because it really isn't worth spending another $15 on it.

I watched this movie for the first time last night...higher than a fuckin' kite...not the best movie to watch stoned. LOL. Great flick though...glad this dude is directing HELLRAISER.

2 Minutes is totally worth it to me when it's a film I care about. This movie should only be viewed as it was intended to be viewed. Anyway, in the "Making Of" feature on the DVD there is a scene not shown in the climax of the film. I was pretty happy when I realized what was going on, it's a small scene but it tells you what happens to someone.
