Following the mysterious death of his aunt, power lawyer Bryan Becket moves into the elderly woman's purportedly haunted Victorian mansion. A die hard skeptic, he dismisses one eerie incident after another, until the haunting turns so personal and vicious, Becket's cool, unemotional veneer begins to unravel. Whispers in the night, things he sees in the darkness, clues of a horrible secret, turn our rationalist into a terrified and reluctant seeker. A seeker of a truth so unspeakable it could destroy him. And the mystery, always just out of reach down the darkened hall, is not fully revealed until the film's final moments. And even then, it leaves a tantalizing question.
The flick is set in a radio station in Pontypool where one day the morning team starts taking reports of extreme, bloody incidents of violence occurring in town. As the story unfolds, the radio staff soon realizes the violence that is ripping society apart is due to a virus being spread through the English language. That in turn poses a problem for a yappy radio jock and his staff holed up in the broadcast booth housed in the basement of the town's abandoned church as a slaughter rages beyond its walls.
Yeah, I mean I'm glad that it's something other than a remake, but it will have to be something amazing for me to get past the premise alone. It just sounds so extremely stupid to me. If they make it work, G_G
i can see where you're coming from. don't get me wrong, PONTY needs to make sure (and i think i've read some good reviews on it) it doesn't come across as cheesy. so i agree w/ you. :)
Pontypool is awesome. You should definitely check it out. It was a bit off at times, but overall it's original and super creepy. Saw it last March here in Canada.
Pontypool looks really good, iam definitlly going to see it when it comes out.
