UPDATE: First Official Image from Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones'

Update: Check out USA Today for a brand new image! It's unfortunate that we all have to watermark the crap out of our exclusives, otherwise it'll be stolen by nearly every blogger on the planet. Such the case with your first look at Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, which rocks a massive "Empire" logo across it. Based on Alice Sebold's book, the film follows Susie (Saoirse Ronan) a 14 year-old girl raped and murdered by her neighbour. From heaven, she watches her family deal (or not) with her death, and watches her murderer as he tries to hide the evidence. Read on for the image from DreamWorks Pictures' adaptation that stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli and Saoirse Ronan. Lovely Bones arrives in theaters December 11.

"What was the point of this post?" Um, to show the first still from a flick A LOT of people are looking forward to.

its sad that you guys feel like you need to watermark your images because your worried a bloger might steal two cents from ya.

To Empire Magazine-put the watermark any place but the center of the picture. As is, it looks less like a still from a movie and more like the SPAM for your website.

I really want to see this.

I read the book this year and I can assume you that it's really good! It's quite horrific and sad, but it's also very fun to read. Overall the book is great!

Also, that still of Susie's heaven is nothing like I pictured it while reading the book.

Mark Wahlberg, I'm not a fan. Peter Jackson on the other hand is fantastic.

Not a fan.... that's what everyone's idea of heaven looks like.

Believe me, I've read the script and thats nothing like what heaven is going to look like in the film. That shots probably just a promo to convey to people the "heavenly" aspect.

How did Mark Wahlberg manage to become attached to The Lovely Bones after his awful performance in The Happening? And Planet of the Apes? It's a shame he's in it because everything else about the movie sounds very exciting.

jackson could make a movie about a monkey taking a shit for 3 hours, and it would still be pretty entertaining to watch... Really looking forward to this after having read the fantastic novel. Meet The Feebles ftw!!!

Will this be R cus I heard the book was pretty fucked up. I haven't yet read it. but Really want to.

Gee, thanks for this awe-inspiring photo. Seriously, this is the first image released? Nice marketing hahahaha. They really went balls out in Photoshop for this picture. I didn't realize heaven was just some chick standing on a mirror. Really gives all those hypoChristians something to look forward to after Jesus doesn't cure their cancer.

The book is incredible, and Peter Jackson made it. You can't go wrong...OR at least, I hope you can't. The book is disturbing, yet somewhat uplifting. I just cant wait for the ending in the book to be portrayed on screen. I recommend reading the book first, only because its so damn good.

I really don't understand why this movie is getting so much hype on this site. The novel was far from horror, and was closer to "The Ice Storm" than anything else. So, if you really like slice-of-life movies about depressed people in the 70s with a fairly silly wrap around story, this movie is for you. However, if you love horror, you will be bored to tears. I know I was when I read the vastly overrated book

Lol what a whiny little bitch. Like BD has never used a picture from another website... Oh wait you just did.
