Thomas Dekker Talks 'Elm Street' Role

Last week it was reported that horror vet Thomas Dekker ("The Sarah Connor Chronicles") would be turning from fighting robots to going toe-to-toe with the boogeyman himself, Freddy Krueger, in New Line Cinema's reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street. At the red carpet premiere for Rob Hall's new slasher film Laid to Rest (on DVD Tuesday from Anchor Bay), Dekker talked very briefly about his possible role as "Jesse".

I am in final negotiations,” confirming earlier reports that he would be tackling one of the teen roles. “It would be the role of Jesse. It’s a good script and I was very impressed."

"Look, I have my feelings about remakes, but… it’s Freddy Krueger!” (laughs) “It’s like, come on! Give me a break!

It's not much, but hey, it's nice to hear it straight from the horses mouth...

He will join the previously announced Jackie Earle Haley (Freddy Krueger) and Kyle Gallner (Quentin) in the film that follows Krueger, a serial child molester murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burnt face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

New Line Cinema has the reboot slated for release on April 16, 2010.

Really looking forward to this one. Hope it's up to par with the new TCM, Halloween, and Friday the 13th.

So will this blend no. 2 with no.1. I don't really remember Jesse in part 1 but it has been a while since i saw it. I thought he was the slightly gay one in no. 2

thomas dekker is so hot...im glad he looks kinda gay...the only thing i dont like about this remake is that therre changing all the names of the characters...but the jesse in nightmare on elm street freddy's revenge did seem gay.

I'm very happy with this casting news as Dekker really is very good in SCC and from what I've read online, they've changed all the names of the characters apart from Nancy and Krueger, so i'm guessing this is just a coincidence that his character has the same name as the protaganist in Freddy's Revenge. Looking back on that sequel, it really was beyond it's time... the makers stated they never knew about the gay subtext throughout the film, but come on it is so blatantly in your face that how could they not. Plus, it was rare to see a male protaganist in a horror movie back then. Freddy's Revenge is without a doubt one of the best in the franchise (and probably the last time Freddy was truly scary IMO!)

Jesse resembles the character of Rob from the original. Kris resembles Tina, and Kris and Jesse are the always-breaking-up couple. I think the characters' names are just homages to the sequels.

haha Thomas says he is final talks and BD writes "He WILL JOIN the cast...." You don`t even know if he will actually be in the movie. he has not even signed yet. Talk about rushing to conclusions.

It actually WASN'T that great of a script. It was barely a remake, they should of just made it into a sequel or prequel. but, it seems that dude is right for playing Freddy. We'll see.

Ahh, I am getting way too excited for this. It's like waiting for Friday the 13th all over again!!!

I don’t know why but what Lewistonspecial scares me a little. Hey Lewistonspecial, have you seen a script? And has anyone heard anything about the character of Nancy? Or is it going to be like a whole new character set up, except for the possibility of Jesse.

ENOUGH WITH THE REMAKES FOR FUCK SAKES....If this is a prequel showing how Freddy became Freddy, than awesome, but nobody can't come up with their own ideas these days and they're remaking timeless classics that should not be touched.

Why the hell would you need a prequel of Freddy becoming Freddy when you have the entire series to tell you what happened before the original? The only way I would see a prequel to Nightmare is if they had the Elm Street kid's (Nancy, Rod, Glen, Tina, etc.)older siblings who died prior to the events of the original. I think this was mentioned in a deleted scene when Marge explains to Nancy about who Freddy was. Anywho, I'm looking forward to the remake. It seems to have an amazing cast so far, and I'm dying to know who will be playing Nancy and Kris!
