Since unofficially announced way back in October of '07, things have been relatively quiet for Child's Play, the remake of the classic 80's flick that creator Don Mancini has been scripting with plans of taking the helm. This weekend Brad Dourif - who played Charles Lee Ray (also known as Chucky) in the franchise - was on hand at a local horror convention where he confirmed that he will in fact once again play the voice of Chucky. He told fans that after hearing from a random guy at a drug store that he wasn't returning, he called Mancini and asked, "Are you remaking 'Child's Play'?" Mancini exclaimed, "Yeah, you're gonna do it, right?" Dourif screamed, "YES!" Although, no word on when Universal plans on putting this sucker into production. We'll keep you posted as always.

In the original: When serial killer Charles Lee Ray is mortally wounded in a police shoot-out, he uses a voodoo spell to transfer his soul into Chucky, a "Good Guys" doll. Andy receives the doll as a birthday gift, and Chucky soon resumes his killing spree. However, Charles doesn't want to be trapped in the body of a doll forever. His only escape would be to transfer into the first human he revealed his true identity to... which places Andy in mortal danger.

Thank Christ they didnt even think of getting someone other than Brad to do the voice. I would have cried harder than when I went 0 for 4 in my little league championship game!

This is a remake that i have a firm belief will not suck. Making chucky dark again still with Brad's voice will certainly be epic, especially with todays film-making techniques

Lets hope they don't fuck this up. child's play 1 and 2 were amazing for back then and still today. 3 had its problems but had its moments. 4 and 5 i wanna erase from my memory it was actually painful to watch. stop the fucking comedy and get back to chucky being scary which is what i hear there trying to do. chucky done right could be terrifying.

Is a Child's Play remake really necessary?

I'm pretty sure nothing but good can come out of this. Espec since Brad is doing the voice again. I wish it wasn't taking so longgg.

I'm wondering if they're going to stick with the original good guy doll look or pick a new look

It is so great that finally there will be a remake who acknowledges that certain actors should NEVER be replaced. And there is absolutely NO ONE who could ever replace Dourif as the voice for Chucky. I hope he also will play Charles Lee Ray in his human form again. I also love it how passionate he still is about the franchise even after acting in big movies like Lord of the rings. Dourif is a truly wonderful guy. And yeah although funny Chucky in BRIDE and SEED was hilarious I also prefer the dark chucky from Part 1 and 2. And as said above the modern technology can take this to a whole new level. But still I think they shoulc NOT do the mistake to just make a frame by frame copy of the original and try to replace that classic. I hope they do the same what TCM,Friday and Halloween did: Keeping the basic iconic elements of the original but make it new, fresh and different with a different kind of characters and a completely own spin. Don`t just repeat what you did before,Don! Make this a Childs Play movie but make it a totally new and different Childs Play. Thats what a remake is supposed to be like.

I kinda agree. I'm tired of the damn remakes. I'm waiting for Fading of the Cries. Can't say I'm too interested in seeing him as a sheriff in H2.

I just saw him this morning at Fangoria's convention where they talked about this. They just showed a teaser from Fading. That film looks so badass. And Brad looks fantastic in it!

Holy shit! Thanks Edgetwist. That looks way better than I originally expected. That music is tight! Is that Jewell or Paula Cole something in the background?

Karlaholm
1:11am, April 19, 2009

No, its Sarah MacLachlan. That trailer is really badass! I love the last clip with Brad swinging the sword.

No Prob Filth! I was searching all over online to see if someone posted it cuz I couldn't make it to FangoCon and just saw it pop up like minutes ago on UHM.

Cannibal10
1:15am, April 19, 2009

That is much, much better than I originally thought from reading the original synopsis. About time Brad played a kickass role again and actually looks cool! Dolls don't count.

Karlaholm

That story isn't completely accurate. I was at the Convention and Brad never called Don, he said he went over to meet with him and felt awkward the whole time and eventually asked him if he was remaking the child's play film. Don then said yes and asked if Brad was gonna do it. Brad never screamed yes but was happy to say yes. It was a fading of the cries panel, not a child's play one.

Its like the old start at the beginning of a line and whisper in someone's ear and they pass it along type deal.
