In addition to the brief news that Universal Pictures' Drag Me to Hell has officially been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for "sequences of horror violence, terror, disturbing images and language," we've also posted our on-set interview with writer-director Sam Raimi, who chats about bringing this long-gestured horror-comedy to life. Don't forget to read about the set visit by clicking here. Drag Me to hell tells the story of Christine Brown (Alison Lohman), an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, Professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) enters their lives…and everything begins to unravel. It hits theaters on May 29th.

Aw, lame! My friend saw it at SXSW and said it was gory as hell! Well, if so they better save that footage for a badass DVD.

Any word on if its the same or very similar cut to the one the early reviews raved about?

Horrorholic

There's only 6 seconds between the 2 cuts. It'll be fine.

i'm still looking forward to this. i've been hearing the only part excised was an eye gouging and we can expect that on the DVD. so no harm, no foul.

PG-13? Fuck that, I will skip this now.

I like how everyone is saying that this is the big return of a horror master. I laugh at this and say.. Sam Raimi your making a pg-13 horror ghost movie for your return. How fuckin lame.

sam raimi has gone fucking soft in his old age and hes went from the great evil dead to probably watered down pussy shit drag me to hell. how can a name like drag me to hell be rated a PG-13?! more like drag me to a movie that only cares about making a buck and doesnt care about his fucking fans anymore! i just dont see how it could be really gory with a fucking PG-13 rating!

Skratchy

Though I agree it's lame, I'll still fucking see the damn thing. Two great reviews so far. Plus it's Sam Raimi goddammit.

Chococat

Maybe he's over gore. He can't be expected to make only one type of film. Granted I don't see it as being a return to horror in ANY way, but it's still probably a good movie.

It's a horror film directed by Sam Raimi! Your all going to see it not matter what it's rated, so quit yer whining!

slipknot611

Other than the almighty Poltergeist (my life... for you...), name me one PG-13 horror movie that was actually scary. Go ahead, I'll wait while you ponder that. Oh, and The Gate doesn't count, it wasn't scary at all, just freaky. Got one in mind? Exactly. There aren't any PG-13 movies that are scary. No such beast, especially now that PG-13 horror is even more geared to the kids than Disneyland. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) and Halloween (original) both proved that you don't have to have blood by the gallon to be scary... but it helps when you're not restricted by the mediocre kiddie rating. If I'm wrong, and this movie doesn't suck somehow, I'll be the first to admit it. But I'm expecting a stinker in the vein of Prom Night and When a Stranger Calls.

I hear so much praise on this flick and I like Sam Raimi's earlier flicks and all but man the previews for this just look stupid...Now with the exxpected pg13 I am even more skeptic but I know i'll end up giving it a shot.

DogCarcass
12:25am, April 17, 2009

I'm sick of people whining about how it is PG-13. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre would probably be PG-13 if it came out today... Gore doesn't always equal scares. After seeing Hostel and Inside I'm pretty much immune to horror movie gore... so i want to see Raimi try to scare/gross us out in other ways. Also... it's a 6 second cut between the R and PG-13. Whoever skips this because of 6 seconds is an idiot.

Ninjaspit

I don't think you can put a rating on fear. The Ring (remake) was PG-13 and is scarier than a hell of a lot of R rated movies I can think of. As was The Sixth Sense (also PG-13). While I haven't seen The Woman in Black (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098672/) this was a British made for tv movie that is supposed to be extremely scary. Raimi has a lot of credibility and even his non horror films (The Gift and A Simple Plan) were pretty dark. This movie is going to be good.

djblack1313
12:58am, April 17, 2009

i know this is slightly different but i found parts of CLOVERFIELD to be VERY intense/scary-ish. but DRAG ME...is a different animal. so i don't know...

A horror movie doesn't need to be a blood bath to be good. PG - 13 so what! There will be an unrated DVD so need to whinge.

staindFAN
1:26am, April 17, 2009

It's not about having an R rating to be "scary", it's about being more realistic with an R rating. PG-13 waters down to many horror films that would have be much better off with a nice hard R rating. Blood and guts and gore doesnt matter when your talking about PG-13, what about something as simple as cursing? There is not a lot of cursing even in PG-13 horror films. Lets just say for example, you have a very intense situation in a scene and someone gets their head chopped off right in front of you, do you respond with "Holy crap!" or "Holy shit!"

magnaderalpha
2:31am, April 17, 2009

It's not about being realistic, fucktards. No horror movie is realistic. I think people believe the more gore and nudity you have in a horror movie equals the more "horror" it is. You can establish a very scary atmosphere and scary situations without going hard-R. But, like everything, the best movies are crafted(CRAFTED, not MADE) by people who know how to work their craft. Raimi, I believe, CAN make a truely horrific PG-13 movie. It's not like he's doing it solely to add the Jonas Brothers into the soundtrack. Seriously, some horror fans need to get over themselves! Horror is WAY more bigger than anything some of you pin it down to be.

deLiriUM
2:47am, April 17, 2009

wow what a $urprise.

Horror_Guy
3:05am, April 17, 2009

It doesn't need an R rating. It's not that gory.

Trioxin83
5:33am, April 17, 2009

well this just stopped me from seeing it in the theater at least...the last pg13 movie i saw in the theater was the unborn...blaaaarrrggggg...nobody told me what it was rated when we went to see it...
