Tribeca Review: 'The House of the Devil' Brings the 80's Love

This evening we've posted the first ever review of Ti West's (The Roost, Cabin Fever 2) latest genre effort, The House of the Devil, which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival (April 22-May 3) later this month. " 'The House of the Devil' is easily Ti West’s most accomplished work to date and it’s a film that both West and Dark Sky Films/MPI should be very, very proud of. While the audience is sure to be divided once again, Devil does carry enough pop, blood and scares to give the average naysayer a reason to jump ship." I saw the trailer for this awhile back and thought that it looked pretty cool. I will definitely take a look at this when it comes out.

Im usually a positive person and dont really dislike alot of movies, so I think I maybe on the "I liked it!" side. Hope it does well, kinda sucks that the movies are 50/50 and not "I liked it!" or "It was, good" or "It sucked" Should be interesting to see how many skulls there are from the fans.

I have House of the Devil on my radar! I will buy this one once it's released on DVD.

I'm stoked about this movie. Love how Ti decided to set it in the early 80s on opposed to yet another modern horror movie was with douchebag characters and MySpace references. 80s was the best time for horror(particularly slashers)! I'm glad this isn't self-awared 80s movie like The Wedding Singer. It's annoying when people do things like that. Setting this movie in the early 80s is the best move, though. It wasn't until later in the decade that the whole "sterotypes" popped up. Y'know, the big hair thing and extreme use of neon clothing. Early 80s is the perfect time to not be affected by the later 80s stereotypes, yet show what the beginning of the 80s was like.

Was SO looking forward to reviewin the premiere at Tribeca. Defintely picking it up on DVD when it hits, but Im hoping it gets a theater run. Tribeca looks uninteresting otherwise - as far as horror goes. Buzzkill.
