Saw: The Video Game from KonamiOfficial Plot: Jigsaw has killed your partner and destroyed your life. Now he has trapped you in an abandoned insane asylum that he alone controls. If you can defeat his brutal traps and survive, you may just discover the truth behind what drives this twisted serial killer.

SAW is a third-person perspective, survival horror game based on the SAW film franchise, which has grossed more than $665M worldwide and sold more than 28 million DVDs. The game features many of the deadly mechanical traps seen in the film, as well as terrifying new ones. Players will pit their wits against Jigsaw as they navigate his world in an attempt to evade and escape his gruesome traps, while also struggling against his minions in brutal combat by using weapons found within the environment.

SAW, the video game, is based on a treatment from Zombie Studios and the creators of the SAW franchise, Leigh Whannell and James Wan.

The timeline for the game takes place between the movies: SAW and SAW II, giving the game its own story, yet fitting within the narratives of the movies.

The story centers on Detective David Tapp who awakens in a decrepit, abandoned asylum. He has been captured by his longtime nemesis, Jigsaw. Obsessed with catching this serial killer, Tapp’s mission has consumed him and ruined his family, resulting in divorce, mental imbalance, and abandonment. Worse yet, this frantic hunt destroyed Tapp’s career while he watched his long-time friend and partner get killed by one of Jigsaw’s traps. Now Jigsaw has the upper hand and has captured the detective. Tapp must play a deadly game—the likes of which he has been investigating for years—to escape, and in order to do so he must survive the lethal traps and puzzles that Jigsaw has put in place for him and others. But each victim has a dark connection to Tapp. Will Tapp save them? Can he survive his obsession to find the Jigsaw killer?

Product Features:

-Traps of Lethal Cunning – Jigsaw has laid out a gauntlet of torturous traps for a handful of innocents. Only you stand between them and the most brutal death imaginable. Think quickly and act! The clock is ticking.

-Choices of Conscience – The player is forced to make difficult moral choices. Who lives and who dies in the game is determined by the player’s choices.

-Mysteries Revealed – Unanswered questions from the films are finally laid to rest. Gamers will discover the origin of Jigsaw and why he devoted his life to games, while also finding out what happened to the characters from the first SAW movie.

-An Ecology of Terror – The asylum in which Jigsaw has trapped you is abandoned, but it is far from empty. It is a living world of horror populated by Jigsaw’s minions and the insane souls they torture… and they have no intention of letting you leave.

PRESS RELEASE CONTINUED

"Konami, partnering with Lionsgate® and Twisted Pictures to create SAW was a very organic synergy," said David Daniels, Director of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "As the leader in the survival horror genre, it only made sense to align with one of cinema's most iconic horror franchises to create an entirely new survival horror experience."

"We are always looking for exciting opportunities to extend the SAW experience beyond the theater. Partnering with Konami, the creators of the survival horror genre, to bring Jigsaw to the video game console was great way to accomplish that." says Aubrey McClure, Vice President, Promotions and Licensing for Lionsgate.

Producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules of Twisted Pictures added, "Through the years, it has been important to us to consistently find new ways to engage and thrill horror audiences, this game is the next step, transporting fans directly into Jigsaw's labyrinth."

Developed by Zombie Studios and based on the incredibly successful film franchise from Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, SAW uses the incredible graphic capabilities of the next generation consoles, to create a terrifying experience that offers truly unique gameplay features that will allow players to pit their wits against Jigsaw and make their choice...live or die.

SAW will be released in North America this fall.

I want to play the game, but one thing bugs me. How can it take place between Saw 1 and Saw 2 if Detective Tapp died in the first one?

Not sure how a game based on Saw could work, but sounds interesting.

So this is going to be like BioShock and Fallout 3, then? Moral choices, heavily based on environment surrounding environment, etc. Interesting. This could be a very good game.

To be honest, the Saw plot line has become so convoluted that I could care less where this game falls in the timeline. I just want a bad ass, scary survival horror game. The new Silent Hill was mediocre (and I'm a die hard Silent Hill fanboy), Dead Space was incredible and FEAR 2 was pretty good but we need more good horror games. I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

So basically it's "Saw"-lent Hill? =P Awesome.

you know that would be a really cool game but most games that I have played that were based on movies have come out pretty shitty. The graphics are never what they should be, the game is usually really short, and the story line always seems choppy. I really hope that this game is good.

how can a game get a plot out of a movie that has no plot.

Hello used bin/greatest hits. More than likely this game is going to be terrible, but who knows.

Looks like we have a bare-bones carbon copy of condemned on our hands here. From the looks of it, and the sounds of it (Jigsaw minions whom you fight in brutal 1st person hand to hand combat) Honestly, I'll still play the game, but only so I can watch Tapp allow the traps to kill the innocent. Who knows, maybe if you do that and select bad choices for all the moral decisions, you could become Jigsaw's apprentice!

Maybe they will have some weird Konami cross over interaction?

Tapp didn't die in the first film. He got shot, and slumped to the ground. And Jigsaw passed by maybe ten minutes later. His fate was, however, hinted at in Saw V. Looks like we may find out what happened to Gordon via video game.

Wasn't he shot in the head with a series of shot guns?

Sorry, I was thinking of the wrong character.

So I'm guessing this means that the sypnosis accidentally released under "Saw V" on XBox Live is actually the sypnosis for "Saw VI" if this is the sypnosis for the video game?

It's kinda obvious that you play as Dt. Tapp in a game created by Dr. Gordon seeking revenge for the man who paid Adam to "invade my privacy." Kinda sucks that it won't play into the film series at all. Seeing how it will just be a filler like 24: The Video Game. But at least Gordon is back, and better than ever.
