While we reported this last week, it was officially announced this afternoon that Kyle Gallner is moving from The Haunting in Connecticut to A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Line and Platinum Dune's remake of the long-running horror franchise. Gallner will play Quentin, one of the lead teens in the pic, which stars Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as the iconic scaremaster Freddy Krueger. Samuel Bayer helms the redo from Wesley Strick's script. Gallner also stars in Fox Atomic's forthcoming comedy thriller Jennifer's Body, penned by Diablo Cody (Juno). Over the weekend, Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller responded to the casting over his official blog. Watch for more casting soon.

oh my god. leave this alone. i dont care. robert englund is freddy krueger. why dont they just make something original and create a new slasher icon everyone will love? at least the saw franchise did that.

Phenomenal casting with Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy... I am now officially enticed. I'm not familiar with Gallner's work... but sounds like he really nailed the audition. I can't wait to hear the rest of the casting!

It's really funny that the same folks that call this 'old news' or say 'enough with the remakes'... Are also the first ones to rush in and post ;) But anyways, back here on earth... I really hope the new Freddy is ALOT better than Robert Englunds version, I never really cared for the 'wise cracking' Freddy.

So far so good on the casting. I have a lot of high hopes for this movie, I know no one can ever truly replace Robert Englund, but if we look back a year ago when one Heath Ledger not only ruled The Dark Knight, but completely owns the role of The Joker. He managed to best the great Jack Nicholson. If history can repeat itself then Jackie Earle Haley can indeed not only make Freddy his own, but could possibly own the role altogether. I'm a huge fan of the NOES series, so I'm game for what Fuller, Bay and company have in store for the remake of Nightmare.

The only thing that bothers me is the director, hasnt the guy only done music videos??

Actually The Butcher333 I'm in my thirties, what would being a teenager have to do with being sick of all their favourite films being remade?

Jackie will bring a Freddy to the screen that will blow everyone away. I agree with some of the past posts that NOES was great the first time, but gets completely diluted and campy with each sequel much like Halloween and Friday did. Robert was great, but it's time for a new direction. I know that is not a popular choice for the diehards, but this is a way better method than repeating a dead series with another horrible sequel trying to hang on and keep it's edge.

I am a child of the eighties and a gigantic NOES fan. While I am nervous about the remake, the truth of the matter is that the first NOES was one of the greatest horror movies ever created and all of the sequels have ranged from ok to horrendous (The 5th one is at the top of my "worst movies of all time" list). If they can give it a fresh start and bring back the scary, cutting his fingers off for no reason and ripping off his face just to fuck with you Freddy, then count me in. With all due respect to Robert Englund, I hope Haley knocks it outta the damn park.

When I heard that Jackie Earle Haley was casted as Freddy (and just having seen the Watchmen movie) I turned pretty positive regarding this project. I think what it basically comes down to is whether the script is going to be okay in terms of thrills, kills and morbid humor. The thing I always loved about Freddy is his sick sense of humor, which I'm pretty sure Haley can do alright. It needs to feel renewed, not same-old same-old like Friday the 13th remake was.

From what I've read of the script, Freddy isn't all that wisecracking. In fact, he really doesn't have very many lines at all. "I'm your boyfriend now, Nancy!" is still there, though!

I like this actor very much, and I'm glad to see that the name is different. If this "re-imagining" is anything like the original in terms of characters such as Nancy, then I will not be watching it and will be actively against it. The original was about the teenagers, NOT Fred Kruger! But I do not want to see Heather Langenkamp's character ruined by some MTV tart who can't keep her clothes on. Please keep all the original teen characters out of this movie.

Poor Freddy. He never had a chance against Platinum Dunes.

I hope they keep the Freddy humor to a minimum. That was Robert's deal and it was cool and it worked, but this time around i want him to be evil, cold and dark.

So Dick was in the Friday remake and Beaver is in the Nightmare remake....pretty cool!

Good casting choice. However, this is just candy-coating. Casting can't save an abysmal script.

I would have killed for this role. I'm very disappointed but thankfully they didn't cast anyone from the CW Network.
