Gore Verbinski Passes on Pirates for 'Bioshock'!

Quite possibly one of the best video games I've ever played is Bioshock, which is not only about the gameplay, but the astounding visuals. Today it was announced that director Gore Verbinski has officially passed on directing of fourth Pirates of the Caribbean (thank god) to get behind the camera for the live action adaptation of the game for Universal Pictures. The plan is to get the sucker in theaters by 2010! "Bioshock" takes place in an underwater city based on the free market principles of Ayn Rand, but things have gone disastrously wrong. Players control a pilot who crash-lands at a secret entrance to the city, called Rapture, and is drawn into a power struggle during which he discovers that his will is not as free as he'd thought.

If you go on XBOX LIVE and look up DemontauruS2 (thats me) you'll see Im constantly either playing LEFT FOR DEAD or BIOSHOCK. Bioshock is one of those games that is so vivid it sticks in your mind. The scenes are just so damned cool looking, and the environment/atmosphere, with that 20's music and the genetic freaks... something about it just hits horror-gaming on the head. I cant wait to see this, good or bad.

Legend of chun li sucked. game adaption suck almost every time. The only halfway decent adaptions were the Resident Evil Movies, the first Tomb raider and Doom. And I hate that Gore is passing up Pirates 4 for this crap. And what do you mean by "Thank god".Mr.D? The pirates movies were awesome. It was Johnny Depps best role ever. I canyt wait for number 4 and are way more excited about a Pirates 4 then this Bioshock-garbage.

Why, exactly, are you "thanking God" for Verbinski pasisng on PIRATES 4? Is it because you have a problem with Verbinski? If so, why would you be happy about him directing BIOSHOCK? Or is it that you have a problem with there being a PIRATES 4 in the first place? If so, I'd have to ask just what you expected to happen - Disney to just mothball their most profitable live-action franchise of all time? Honestly, it never ceases to amaze me how people who make their living reporting on the film industry sometimes seem to have no comprehension of how that industry works. PIRATES 4 is going to happen, and it damn well should happen. In light of the fact that FAST & FURIOUS just shattered April box office records and proved that despite all the snobbery Americans display outwardly toward such franchises audiences still want popcorn fluff, I'm not certain Verbinski is doing himself any favors financially by passing on the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Why did Mr. D say "thank god"? Reason probably has something to do with the reason I can't bring myself to watch just one of them. Leave it open - but I think I can feel where he's comin from.

I loved playing Bioshock and would love to see the movie. I believe Mr. D said "thank god" because the first Pirates movie was great but the sequels were not even close to being as good. I think a fourth movie is too much and would much rather see a Bioshock movie than another Pirates movie.

Good! Pirates was one of the most god-awful pieces of crap made (and crammed down everyones throat) in the last few years. I like Johnny Depp, but talk about shitty overacting. The whole drawing from Keith Richards was really fucking cornball.

About fuckin time those pirates movies were awful beyond terrible. I saw the 2nd one thinking hey it will be much better then the first and shit it was 10 times worst no action. No nothing. Smart movie Mr. GV Go back to horror when u were cool like the ring.

I liked the pirates movies... I really like the character of Jack Sparrow... But I can totally see where he's coming from... I'm a bit tired of them... But Its coming and it's probably going to do really well because of that fan base who'd rather spend their movie money on something familiar and comforting than take a chance on something new. As for Bioshock... I'm a tiny bit excited. In spite of how terrible and campy they tend to be, I like video game movies... If only to throw popcorn at the screen. I can't wait to see what the "monsters" look like... Esspecially Big Daddies and Little Sisters.

First of all, Johnny Depps unfathomable awesomeness aside, it was Gore's vision that made Black Pearl such a great movie for anyone inside (and outside) the disney market. I dont blame him for passing on number four, and even less for the intellectual property Bioshock! This was the best game I played over Christmas 07, and its got everything you need for a movie. An epic setting, think Ayn Rand with some Orwell thrown in, with a really messed up populace, and then Verbinskis classic visuals are kind of tailor made for this film. Just dont fuck up the casting!! (Andrew Ryan - Alan rickman? can he grow a good moustache? I vote Ciaran Hinds, and maybe Kevin McKidd for Fontaine)

My only problem with them making a movie about Bioshock is that the game already has a style and story that is great and well defined. How much of this will be lost?
