I think I just blew a nerd nut of my own. If it wasn't incredible enough that the original Ghost Busters - Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray - would be returning in Columbia Pictures' Ghostbusters 3, a new interview at EW reveals that Rick Moranis is game for returning as Louis Tully, the ecto-nerd tax guy, in the soon to be filming sequel. Details inside.
"Earlier this week at ShoWest, Sony Pictures' Rory Bruer confirmed long-circulating rumors that the studio was pursuing a third installment of Ghostbusters. You won't hear Harold Ramis contradicting him. According to Ramis, who cowrote and starred in the first two Ghostbusters, a third journey into the comedic supernatural is in the cards. And yes, the original cast will return: Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and even the elusive Bill Murray. "Everybody said they'd do it," says Ramis, who doesn't intend to direct Ghostbusters III. "They’ll be looking at younger actors [for the lead roles], I’m sure. But we’ll be in it as mentors or advisers. I think the first one captured something that hadn’t been seen for a long time: the combination of scary movies and smart broad comedy. That was a great comic edge to play. Fortunately, we stopped before we beat it into the ground. If we’d done a third one then, no one would want to see one now, I think, cause we were headin’ downhill, even with the second one," he laughs. "We’ll see, everyone’s gonna have to love the [Ghostbusters III] script to move it forward."
But it might be a while before anyone sees the screenplay. Gene Stupinksy and Lee Eisenberg, the exec-producers of The Office who also cowrote June's upcoming Year One with Ramis, are toiling away on a draft, but because "they work full-time on The Office, the script process is slow," says Ramis. "Even if there was a great script by the end of the summer, it would be a year before [we could go into production]. It’s a big movie. Lots of prep." As for the plot, it won't have anything to do with the "Ghostbusters Go to Hell" premise that Aykroyd had cooked up in the '90s. (At the time, he and Ramis were thinking of casting Chris Farley, Chris Rock, and Ben Stiller.) "As soon as Danny said it, I thought that was really funny. But now there’s a new concept," Ramis says. "And it’s interesting, beyond the kind of mythology of it, there’s a personal story that’s pretty grounded.""
HELL YES !!! But i've also heard the rumor of Moranis retiring but who knows, maybe this is the film to get him back. Now get Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts and the deal is sealed.
SWEET!!! YES!! now i am more pumped for this. now like few othe rpeople said, need annie potts and sigorney weaver in it and this will be awesome!!!! who u gonna calal ghost busters!!!
At least the cast is being done right. Think of all the bitching we hear about remakes Mr D - and then think of this - how would you have felt if it was a revisioning, recasted and retold for today... bet THAT would have made YOU puke... ;)
He seems all up for remakes. But this is actually good news. Now if they release a statement about the original cast being the main leads I might be able to get behind this film. Lets just end there story and then sony can remake it and finishes bleeding the title out.
Articles also said he would be in the game, but those were proven false. I think he is done with the entertainment industry. I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan, but don't know if I want a third movie. I hate the idea of a new group of Ghostbusters even if the originals have a part in the movie. Leave well enough alone.
P.S. Cathedral, we don't pretend like we are killing ghosts, we pretend that we are catching ghosts. HUGE difference. You can't kill ghosts, they are already dead.
LOVE IT! Ghostbusters was true genius. Well-written, great acting, and for ages 8 and under it was pretty damn creepy. I will never forget being 4 years old and seeing Zul crawl out of the fridge!
like the Cellar Dweller mr_halloween24_7 haha. Well, here we see another franchise from my childhood getting prepped for what could potentially be fantastic but will more likely than not be a sad descent into movie hell. Let's see guys, you added to Star Wars and RUINED IT, you added to Indianna Jones and RUINED IT, do you people learn nothing?!? Are you that desperate for another paycheck? Just because fans have been piddling themselves for years at the idea of a third ghostbusters film doesn't mean that it should actually happen. Do any of you think that ANY of the actors slated to be in this have done anything good in the last few years with the exception of Bill Murray? (Okay and maybe Dan Akroyd as the hitman in Grosse Pointe Blank but that was almost 10 years ago). All of these film makers and actors need to be comfortable with the idea that they created something great that doesn't need to be added to or followed up. I hope Ghostbusters 3 will prove me completely wrong but I don't know if I want to risk losing another great memory from my youth just to find out.... Keep us updated... fingers crossed.
thats freaking awesome, i can not wait for this to come out, It would have been awesome if they had used farley like they wanted because chris farley is the man.
Nah, Farley was great but not for GB3. Farley was over the top at times and thats not what GB is about. Its comedy but its suddel comedy. Its not an all out laugh fest.
You guys gotta do a "CASTING CALL" for this baby! I see Jack Black as the main new guy. The original 'Busters was written for Belushi and he brings that similar manic energy. He is also starring in Gene Stupinksy and Lee Eisenberg's "Year One" with Ramis the EP. Ben Stiller who would have been cast in "Ghostbusters Go to Hell" would be great next to Black with Owen Wilson (Reunite the "Heatvision" team). And then...Bobby Lee!
Grosse Pointe Blank didn't come out "almost 10 years ago", it cmae out April 1997, which would make it over 12 years ago...Seems like longer, as the film seems to have a certain late 80's/early 90's vibe about it, seems more like '87 than '97, great film though, classic Cusack...
