We've learned exclusively this afternoon that Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin, the podcast host and Johnny Depp character in New Line Cinema's Platinum Dunes produced reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street. He'll be joining Jackie Earle Haley, who we announced a few hours ago will be playing Freddy Krueger. Watch for loads more casting in the coming weeks as shooting begins at the end of this month. Being directed by Samuel Bayer, the films' premise centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burnt face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

Watch Kyle in this clip from Haunting in Connecticut:

I'm not too excited about this film in general. I am not a fan of P.Dunes, they are not much for a story, they only focus on blood and gore. They leave out the best elements of the film they Re-make... Lets see how bad they can fuck this film up too. Leave none of the great horror films alone!

ooo im third on this thread what an honor. anyways...i am just a little worried that Jackie Earl Haley woulnt live up to Robert Englund's shadow i mean he was the man who gave Fred Kruger life, with out him i feel that we are going to be left with someone who at first was unconfident...dont get me wrong i have great faith in the guy as an actor to potray such a huge iconic character. i just dont want to be let down. everybody is pissed about this, and the fact that Robert will not be reprising his ledgendary role, but that was HIS call, we can all sit and bitch all we want but the fact remains that he denied the role..end of story. i wasnt happy with P-D revamp of friday the 13th. it just felt like another sequel and it was very rushed. and if anyone from P-D reads these comments, my advice take it slow. focus on more back story and do not leave any of the original formula in the dark. this movie will be very successfull if you can do that? thanks

PODCAST HOST!?

Well, though I'm against the remake, Gallner has a look to him that doesn't scream "Hollywood", which is good. He looks like a REAL teen(even though he's nearly his mid-20s) and can play a REAL teen despite his age. At least they aren't getting someone like Chace Crawford to play him.

I'm really excited about this... All of Platinum Dunes remakes have been top notch and better than the originals.

I think Freddy should wear a dress and deliver bunnies to all the Elm Street children! Call him "Freddy-Tranny!"

I agree biledemaon3. right on.

I also must say if they want to "reboot" this franchise, the first film should be about freddy while he was human, and how he abducted his victims and murdered them, and why. sort of like what rob zombie did with the halloween films. if we can dive deeper in to the phycologicical sense of it all and have the main idea of the film be why freddy was the way he is, it would make for a much better "reboot" of the franchise.

I sure hope the movie isn't anything close to being a carbon copy of the original. The orininal is fine and great for that moment in time, but so much has happened in horror since. I don't think there really needs a character for character re-casting. Freddy, Nancy and her father are the only 3 important characters.

Podcast? Ew does that mean this is a modern remake? I didn't think this terrible idea could get any worse. Stickyhandball is right. I'm a teen, and I don't know ANY teens that listen to podcasts.

Johnny Depp character? They're not even bothering with new characters, just recycling the old ones. OH FUCK OFF PLATINUM DUNES!!!!!!!

i get tired of all the reboots and the lack of originality in american horror today too but if this is what it takes to keep these franchises alive i am all for it. it's better than nothing and it's sure as hell better than freddy's dead, jason in space, and leatherface in drag chasing around renee zellweger.

Platinum Dunes is fuckin EVIL. 1st they crucify FRIDAY THE 13th and now they want Freddy on the cross 2. next Pinhead. Next A Texas chainsaw massecere sequel. then they do Freddy vs. jason 2 which effectivly ruins Evil Dead (see Freddy vs. Jason 2 website 4 details). then they will sequel everything again.the theyll do sumthing pointless like "Hellraiser vs. Freddy" (which in a way would make sense but they would stilll probaly ruin it) so soon every horror icon will die at the hands of a shitty buissiness who just needed some ratings. ASSHOLES

skullcracker14, you have no idea what you're talking about, do you? Platinum Dunes most likely won't be part of a Freddy Vs. Jason 2. I can't see them randomly doing a sequel to a film that was made before their first film was even released. As for Hellraiser Vs. Freddy, never gonna happen. The Weinstein Company wouldn't ever allow that to happen. Michael Vs. Pinhead almost happened, but then Dimension pulled the plug on it. As for Friday the 13th, they basically gave us exactly what the entire series was, a shitty movie. I love them, but they're shitty as hell. Oh, and btw, movies don't look for ratings, they look for box office success, tv's the one that wants ratings, moron.

Well he's no Johnny, but that's a good thing. Glad they didn't just get a Depp lookalike. So far I'm not annoyed by any of the casting choices. Now it's Nancy!

I have no excitement over this movie due to Friday the 13th. Platinum dunes seems to not understand the idea of horror. Lets take a look at the most recent movies they have produced, Friday, The Amityville Horror, The 2 Chainsaw Movies, The Hitcher and The Unborn. None of these movies rated very high on the creative side and none of them felt as creative as previous remakes. Remakes are ok as long as they are bringing something new to the table but it seems that platinum dunes either makes terrible decisions with scripts, directors or a combination of both. It could be that they keep using music video directors on these hallowed movies instead of trying fresh directors with fresh scripts but more power to them. Money talks so as long as they keep bringing in 50M or more, they will keep coming.

Hate New Line if you like, but they did seem to appreciate the franchise and tried to create sequels that satisfied the audience.

i think this is also a great choice for a johnny depp type AS HE WAS in the first movie. he hadnt blown up yet and his performance was on par with what i seen this guy do in a haunting in conn.maybe tey could get him to sweettalk virginia madsen into taking on the nancys mom role."hello to you to donald"

Kyle Gallner is a wonderful choice. I am very familiar with him since he played the superhero Impulse/The Flash on my favorite TV show SMALLVILLE twice (in Season 4 and 6) and will return in 6 weeks in the Season 8 finale of the show.
