And Your New Freddy Krueger Is...

Updated: Casting is now 100% official. Back in February the boys over at Latino Review had broke the news first that Jackie Earle Haley (watch a clip of him from Watchmen beyond the break) was in fact locked down as your new Freddy Krueger. While at the time they were wrong in the fact that it was a done deal, this afternoon Bloody-Disgusting learned exclusively that Haley is now locked and loaded to pull over that grimy red and green sweater, strap on the infamous razor glove and tip his fedora as the brand-spanking-new Freddy Krueger! Expect an official announcement as early as next week. Shooting begins under the watch of Samuel Bayer at the end of the month in Chicago on A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Line Cinema's reboot of the infamous franchise created by Wes Craven that followed Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burnt face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams. Don't fall asleep on April 16, 2010.

Jackie Earle Haley was our choice for Freddy in our A Nightmare on Elm Street casting call, which you can read here. What do you guys think? Watch the video below to hear Haley talk as Rorschach is Watchmen. Thanks to B-D reader 'icenemesis' for the link to the video!

I actually like this choice. I'm Still a bit butt hurt that they would replace Englund but maybe he will do a good job

they have to replace him...its a REMAKE for christ sake...not another sequel

This is very smart. he has THAT look about him. It's not the nasty side i think he'll have trouble with, depending on what there gonna do, freddy may have to portray the 'family man' image too. That's when i reckon he'll have to try.

It's not Freddy without Englund. It's the same as Rocky without Stallone or Die Hard without Bruce. I have no interest in a Nightmare without Freddy.

Oh, nice. His eyes seem fitting for the role. I hope he does a good job if he gets the role.

massive upgrade from my view. now i hope the freddy character and the movie is deserving of having an actor with haley's talents involved.

They have to replace Englund, he said it himself that he barely made it through the filming of Freddy Vs Jason, hes too old, its too hard on him now.

I am a Freddy fan to the point of it being slightly unhealthy, and I am as opposed to a PD remake as you can get, and pretty much don't like the idea of remakes in general . . but Freddy is an iconic character that was always gonna go on past Robert (who will remain THE Freddy forever), and if you have to recast Freddy, this guy is a good choice.

It's going to be heartbreaking to watch another Nightmare movie with Englund doing a cameo and not wearing the sweater and hat. I like the fact that it's going to be scary again (finally!), but why couldn't someone make a serious, scary one several years ago back when Englund would have been interested in doing it? Too bad the series got so campy and ridiculous at the end. I don't know. We'll see. I'm hoping for the best with this, but I don't think I can ever really buy anyone else playing Freddy. It's not like Jason where you can just slap a hockey-mask on somebody and call it a day.

After seeing that script review I know this movie will be just like all the other horror remakes. Crappy. Why can't they just come up with original characters it is easy.

No. Not my choice. Meh, i'll still see it but there were better people to play the role

i am not looking forward to seeing this at all. why remaking all of the classics is beyond me..... it wont be the same without the ORIGINAL freddy, robert englund. i can let go of the fact that yea he is getting old. (still hurts though) i admit, this dude does look scary enough to play freddy......but i agree with ttop, they should have just had it with the original characters..oh well......IF its scary then MIGHT see it if it is scary, not stupid teeeny bopperish.

AWESOME news !! Jackie all along was the perfect choice for this. For all the doubter's out there and with all due respect to Robert Englund, Jackie Earle Haley is a WAY better actor. Not even a debate folks. I think he will bring a more evil Freddy to the screen than we have ever seen before.

As much as I agree that certain actors ARE there characters , such as Englund as Krueger and Bradley as Pinhead, there were probably people back in the day that thought Lagosi IS the only Dracula, and then Christopher Lee and Gary Oldham come along ... maybe their not Lagosi, but they were very good in their own respect.

im all for remakes and changing the actors, but doing this means that robert englund will most likely never play Freddy again. that just sucks ass. fuck jackie or anyone else. theres no reason why robert cant do it

If Robert can't do it anymore because his age or whatever, so be it. But after seeing the Watchmen, I think Jackie is the best alternative. I just hope that if he does indeed take the role, he will cotinue fulfill his responsibility by returning to all the sequels.

Sorry, didn't need the word "continue."
