This evening B-D reader 'JayKah' just sent us a heads up to the first ever images for Konami's Saw: The Video Game, which is said to be hitting retailers (PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) this October to coincide with Lionsgate's release of Saw VI in theaters. You can read a bit about the game and check out the images, along with a piece of concept art by reading beyond the break and don't forget to keep up with your daily horror video game fix over at Dead Pixels.
David Daniels, director of marketing for Konami, explains: "Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we're passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with 'Silent Hill.' 'Saw' has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sold over 16 million DVDs, so we felt like it was a great opportunity to align ourselves with one of the most successful horror film franchises in history."
Combining action, puzzles, mystery and terror, the game will have an original plot that ties into but is however not entirely adapted from the films. The gameplay is focused on the unusual traps serial killer Jigsaw likes to rig for his tortured victims. You take control of a character in an asylum who has to decide whether and how to solve the puzzles and save Jigsaw's victims.
"'Silent Hill' is more about psychological terror, but 'Saw' for us is more about graphic, intense horror that overwhelms you. We want players to turn away from the screen for just a moment because of the visual intensity."

WOW...WHAT IS THIS GONNA BE LIKE...!!! i'm sure there will be haters and to them i say...play the game first...looks pretty good....i hope they have the gag where your doused on a flamable substance and have to use a lighter to find the combo lock number...!!!
Gotta love shitacular games that have been canned half way through and then get picked up by a company that just wants to make a buck off the half assed game during it's films simultaneous release.
Horror_Guy, I think you hit the nail on the head harder than anyone. This one just reeks of cashout. They basically say as much in their statement: "Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we're passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with 'Silent Hill.'" I for one would like a more original game idea for something like that, as opposed to a adaptation from a movie.
Just to be clear - the game wasn't "canned" - the company making it went bust. I'm not sure how well SAW will work as a game - but I can't wait to find out...
Wow, they're still working on this? It stopped being an exciting possibility about 2 movies ago. Meh, knowing my tendency to take pity upon even games nobody likes, I'll probably still take her out for a spin.
can we play as jigsaw and set up our own unique traps, go out and kidnap the person we feel is most unworthy and then watch them try to get out of it? That would make me buy this game =)
With Leigh Whannell and James Wan handing the game's writing, the plot should at least be good. As far as the quality of the game itself . . . who knows.
AS a fan of the first saw, and none of the others, i would have to say that this game is just whoring out a great idea that has been turned into a cash cow franchise. the original is the best, and frankley the only saw movie i like.
I have to agree with zombeeslut on this one. I loved the original but each one after that gets a little weaker. I think all those Saw sequels just tie up the Halloween release spot and keep other great movies (like Paranormal Activity and Trick r Treat) from getting released. And that Konami guy is a little confused too - Resident Evil is the king of survival horror games, not Silent Hill.
KandyMan....When's the last time a spiderman game been good? and spiderman 3 was pretty bad
