Hey Relativity/Rogue Pictures, what the f*ck are you waiting for? While you're sitting around letting Hack/Slash - Todd Lincoln's long-delayed comic book adaptation of the same name - collect dust, an indie company by the name of Ratio Pictures is ripping off your idea and actually making the movie. You better hope it's not good. For everyone else, read on for details on Eve, and let the race for who makes a better movie begin.

Indie banner Ratio Pictures is set to produce "Eve," the story of a woman who tracks down and kills supernatural serial killers.

Brian Metcalf, Karoline Kautz and Elaine Hendrix will produce with Hugh Edwards exec producing.

Hendrix (pictured right) will also star along with Jordan Matthews. The script was penned and will be directed by Metcalf with principal photography scheduled to start next year.

Metcalf recently produced, directed and wrote "Fading of the Cries," a supernatural action feature about a young man who must protect a teenage girl and a magic necklace from demonic forces.

"Fading," which is in post-production, stars Brad Dourif, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Mackenzie Rosman, Hallee Hirsh and Jessica Morris along with Hendrix and Matthews. Watch for more on this as it comes in.

Come Cassie, where are you?!
Are you going to do something about it?
Maybe you guys can have a cat fight or something, eh, eh?

Does sound cool. And where in Hack/slash. I bet they cut it. That comic was sick as fucking hell. I loved it. I want 2 read the new ones that came out.

Prefer a hack/slash but this will do nicely.

There are a million ideas similar like Dexter, Ultraviolet and Buffy. I find it hard to believe its taken from Hack/Slash as I have never even heard of it. All that matters in the end is how cool the movie is.

I was just about to say the same thing. It's like when The 6th Sense and Stir of Echoes came out at the same time - or when Dreamscape and Nightmare on Elm Street came out. Each film had the same main premise but was very different from each other. One was obviously better than the other. Considering I've never heard of Hack/Slash either, I would say this is more like a supernatural Dexter.

Doesn't bother me any if there are a dozen films with somewhat the same idea as long as they're all good. There are so many films out right now about serial killers, its kinda cool to see 2 of them about women (go fellow chickies!)killing serial killers. I'll probably go see both as I'm excited about both.

Hi! I'm Tim Seeley, the guy that makes Hack/SLash, the comic. So, very little makes me prouder than fans are fervently anticipating the H/S film. And very little makes me as bummed as the fact that you've had to wait so long. But, as far as this film, EVE goes, I would agree that it's a superficially similar concept to Hack/Slash which came before it, just as H/S was always superficially similar to Buffy which came before it. To me, what makes H/S unique is the characters and the execution, and I anticipate this film will have it's own vibe and characters who are unlike Cassie Hack and Vlad. I'm excited to see it, and hope it's fun. In the meantime, if you haven't heard of Hack/Slash, I urge you to drop into your local comic book store and pick up the volume one trade paper back collection, entitled FIRST CUT to experience our take on the "girl vs. monsters" genre and our unique twist to it. I, like you, eagerly await news on the HACK/SLASH film adaptation. Thank you, Hack/Slash readers and Mr. Disgusting! TIM SEELEY

I've read very little of Hack/Slash, but I definitely am looking forward to a movie version...I still need to hunt down Hack/Slash VS Chucky

Its a good point you have, Tim. I remember the preconceived notion when I was a teen that Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street were the same concept which was teens being killed by a madman. They were nothing alike but my parents thought so. Hack/Slash sounds like a fun concept but is not really a known household name so I find it hard to believe they "stole" the idea. We have no idea when this was originally thought up. I also have thought of the idea of someone killing a bunch of madmen, maybe not a woman, but still, considering I have been a longtime horror fan. Also, it sounds like Vlad and Cassie are a team whereas I get the feeling this Eve chick is a loner. That said, I would love to go see Hack/Slash and Eve and am now interested in reading the comic as well.

Okay, I had to sign up just to comment on this one. I am a goth chick who has never heard of Eve or Hack/Slash in my life - sorry guys. I am also a huge comic book, movie and anime fan too and go to the New York Comic Con religiously every year. I find it interesting that I came up with the EXACT SAME idea about a female girl who kills a bunch of serial killers. Now if I continue forward on my idea and create my own comic, which I was already working on with several professionals in the industry, am I going to be considered "stealing" from these guys? I came up with the idea way before buffy too but never acted on it to date. I find it hard to claim Ratio pictures is "ripping" off Hack/slash. I have never heard of this comic. Of course I've heard of Buffy and Dexter though. Are they going to accuse Eve and Hack/slash of stealing their idea? Maybe if it was about a madman with a chainsaw in Texas I might say its too similar. I am bummed about this but it goes to show a number of people can come up with the same idea.

Hi Cannibal, it would only be a rip-off if you name your characters Eve, Vlad or Cassie, otherwise I'd say go for it! I think Tim was trying to say that since all the characters and execution are different than it will be different. How many movies are out there about an older person becoming their kid's age? Hey Macho555 and Tim, I just noticed that the director of Eve just worked with Brad Dourif of Chucky. Perhaps Ratio and Relativity should join forces and make the Hack/Slash vs. Chucky movie cuz I bet Brad will be in Ratio's Eve as well.

Hack/Slash is household where I come from. Everyone knows it, reads it, and loves it. It's not underground, heck, B-D has reported on it tons of times. As a longtime fan of Hack/Slash, yes, it looks like Eve is ripping it off. It's one thing to share similar ideas, it's another when the execution of those ideas is also the same. Judging from the pic above, Eve even dresses like the fishnet stocking wearing, big boot stomping, bra sporting goth gal Cassie. Tim, thanks for touching base too.

Crow, that photo is not from Eve as I've seen it before and its a different project of Elaine's. I agree with Cannibal10 as it seems hard for them to be ripping off Hack/Slash as there are already too many movies and ideas like that. I have also never heard of Hack/Slash and I'm living in Chicago. I'm not putting down Hack/Slash though cuz it sounds like something I want to check out.

This is stupid to be going back and forth. I want to see them both. Coming from New York I haven't heard of it either but that isn't a bad thing. I hadn't heard of Twilight before they announced the movie. But there is no way that Hack/Slash is being ripped off with Dexter out there. Everyone's heard of that. And if Cannibal makes her comic book, I doubt it'll be a rip-off of Hack/Slash either.

Cannibal10
12:13pm, March 30, 2009

Wait a minute, crow454. Are you saying that everyone you talk to thinks Hack/Slash is a household name? Household means Brad Pitt or Hanna Montana. I'm living in New York City and I can walk up to any person on the street here and ask if they've heard of it. They will most likely say no. So in your town you can walk up to anyone and say they know Hack/Slash. And that photo is not from Eve either. Dexter isn't even a household name. My parents have never heard of that. I've been looking at Bloody Disgusting for a while and never read the Hack articles either.

Cannibal10
12:17pm, March 30, 2009

One last thing, when we discussed my idea for the comic, I'm working with artists who've been in the comic industry for a long time and they know nothing about Hack/Slash. I'm hesitant to read it now for fear of being told I plaguerized them.

Hack/Slash is amazing! It's like an 80s Horror Slasher film in comic book form! I just recently got the Omnibus #1, which I have been searching for, for years. Definitely my favorite comic I've ever read!

I remember the day BD first reported about a Hack/Slash film, to say I was excited is an understatement. H/S is one of my favourite comics ever, and a film version if done well could be the nuclear bomb of cool. Eve will be cool but it wont be H/S.

timseeley
2:08pm, March 30, 2009

Heh, Cannibal10. don't worry about it. Do your book. If it's good, it'll find an audience. Hack/Slash is not a household name, in the sense that EVERYONE know about it. But, most horror comic fans are familiar with it. In the future, I'd recommend doing some research, so you don't have to deal with the sudden panic of discovering a similar idea to your own has been published for 5 years, whether you came up with it first or not. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff about this EVE film. And, y'know, READ HACK/SLASH. TIM SEELEY

Um, yeah Cannibal, you really haven't been paying attention. As far as horror comics are concerned, HACK/SLASH is well known and loved. I feel your pain though; I know what it's like to have a great original idea only to find out it's been done. But there's kind of no excuse here, sorry. Hey Tim, when's the second omnibus coming out? I'm chomping at the bit to give you my money.

Cannibal10
2:33pm, March 30, 2009

Hi Tim, I wasn't insulting you or your book about it being a household name. Ultimately, great minds think alike and it sounds like you, Ratio and I all have great things in common. The only thing we had originally heard of was Buffy and we were somewhat fearful because of Resident Evil. We are rethinking our ideas now because of this but I am looking forward to reading your comic and seeing the Eve film.

Cannibal10
2:42pm, March 30, 2009

Scissorman, we generally don't worry about stuff like stealing when we're just creating ideas. I'm sure nobody is concerned with doing another zombie film. Ultimately, its just a few friends getting together creating fun stuff. I'm glad H/S has a great audience. Tim's doing something right and he seems like a really cool dude. But I don't think Tim worried when Dexter came out or Buffy or any of those, OR when the next slasher movie comes out I don't think they'll be worrying about the millions that came before them so to say no excuse doesn't mean much to me really.

psychotic9
2:50pm, March 30, 2009

Scissorman, I agree with Cannibal10. Give the girl a break. I go to the comic stores alot and I have never seen it. Plus I'm a very big horror fan and have hundreds of horror comics and movies. H/S seems to have a good solid core audience and I'm glad you enjoy it but it sounds like you're saying we aren't true horror fans because we haven't heard of it. Look at a bunch of the previous posts and it looks like alot of us haven't heard it. It doesn't mean they're not true horror fans either. Truth is I would be happy to pick it up and read it just based on the material but again I wasn't aware of it before.
